Chicago (Summer 2004) -- Two-time Parents' Choice Gold Award winner Justin provides a fresh perspective on family life and the kinds of things that kids - and their parents-- deal with all the time: getting a shot, making it through photo day, and losing a tooth. Way Out is truly a recording for family listening, with 12 original tunes in musical styles ranging from Afro-pop to country-rock. Way Out will be available on July 20, 2004 from Carpet Square Records.
The sophisticated arrangements and insightful lyrics of Way Out speak to people of all ages. Justin regularly performs and hones his songs with live audiences, so the songs are family-tested and approved. Songs like "Day Camp," "Doctor Doctor" and "Picture Day" offer pure zany fun, but they have a deeper message that derives from the complex issues that kids face as they grow up. The title track "Way Out" appears to be a fantasy romp, but it delves into the wider human issue of wanting something beyond your lot in life. And a few of the tracks provide plenty of room for reflection - like "Best Friend," "Roller in the Coaster" and the quiet "Suppertime" track that ends the recording. Sing-along refrains and an irresistible invitation to dance and move make Way Out an interactive musical experience. Colorful cover art by artist Sarajo Frieden reflects the offbeat and colorful feeling of the songs.
A Chicago based artist making national headlines, Justin Roberts defies categorization. His tunes delight parents and kids alike with snappy-smart lyrics and an upbeat acoustic rock and pop sound. Justin hasn't forgotten what it's like to be a kid. From the woes of moving day to the wacky silliness of imagining a brontosaurus with a sweet tooth, Justin's music appeals to the kid in all of us. "Many of the issues of a 3 year old are not so very different from what a 30 year old deals with," he notes. His tunes will have even the most overstressed parent bopping around to his infectious beats. His career as a children's musician began in the mid-1990s when he was a Montessori preschool teacher and music director, writing original songs related to monthly themes in the school curriculum. The song "Apple Tree" written during this time became one of the highlights of Roberts' first family recording, Great Big Sun. Roberts' second family release Yellow Bus won national acclaim and awards, including Gold Awards from both Parents' Choice and the National Association of Parenting Publications. It also was selected as one of Amazon.com's "Top 10 Children's CDs of 2001." The 2003 release Not Naptime garnered numerous awards and acclaim, including another Parents' Choice Gold Award, a NAPPA Gold Award, an "Award of Excellence" from DiscoverySchool.com, and others. Formerly with the Minneapolis band Pimentos for Gus, Roberts also recorded a solo release for adults called Bright Becomes Blue. Justin now lives in the Chicago area with his wife Chris and dog Udo.

How clever
author: AndreaI have to admit, when my husband and I are alone in the car, we crank up the Justin Robert's CD and sing along!! My children cannot survive a car trip without this CD. Even my two year old knows all the lyrics to the songs, and shouts as loud as he can, "WAY OUT!!"
Clever and Fun
author: AndreaMy youngest child is constantly requesting WAY OUT in the car and everytime we hear the chorus, he belts out at the top of his lungs WAY OUT!! The lyrics are clever and intelligent and the music is hip and fun!! It helps us grown-ups to view the world through a child's eyes once agsin.
Another great one from our favorite musician!
author: Laura GOur whole family loves all of Justin's music! On Way Out we especially enjoy the songs Day Camp and Way Out. We just bought a huge stash of all of his CDs to give at every birthday party our three-year-old attends.
Has been our favourite cd in the house for 8 months now!!
author: Dr. Becky ConekinSince we discovered Justin Roberts and the NOT READY FOR NAPTIMe PLAyers through CDBABY last year, this has been our favourite cd. I have now bought 4 of these as presents and two other cd's by JR to give away. We have all of his music! See them in person, too; they are very talented and very entertaining!
My 4 kids from 7years to 1year all love it!
author: Emily LeabchYet another in a line of fantastic kid music. They are fun and silly and they stick in your head, but not in an annoying way as a lot of kid music does. My 4 kids all love it!
My 3 children love all of his cd's and we play them daily!
author: wendy menzelMy children dance and sing and laugh to this wonderful cd. Anyone can relate to these cleverly written songs!
Fun for the whole family
author: Heidi BarronThe songs are catchy, funny, and easy to sing along with. My children ages 21 months to 7 love it!
My son LOVES this CD!
author: MarieMy 2 year old son wasn't really interested in music if it didn't come from The Wiggles. Way Out is the exception. He sings along to all the songs and he dances in his car seat when we're driving with it on. His favorites are "Doctor, Doctor," "Way Out" and "Picture Day". Justin's songs are catchy and fun for adults as well and his voice is reminiscent of Michael Stipes and James Taylor. Try to catch a live performance too - my son literally rushed the stage and danced the entire time.
Great for all ages!
author: LaurenWe have had this cd in the car since we got it, and we NEVER get tired of it. My 16-month is starting to sing Way Out and she goes "ahhhhh" during Airplane Food. My older kids love it, too! The lyrics are both catchy and smart, and the kids and I get a kick out of the songs every time we hear them.
my favorite, favorite!!
author: laurieNO ONE is as good as Justin Roberts, and this is his best album yet. We literally listen to it every single day and I'm never sick of it. The songs are hilarious, tender, groovy, and totally original. Can't recommend Way Out highly enough!!

I gave this CD as a gift, and the recipient's mom raved about it!
FANTASTIC - I play it when alone in the car.
author: Sarah ButzenI loved Great Big Sun and Yellow Bus and was really hoping Way Out would be great too - and was not disappointed. If anything, Roberts has surpassed himself. The whole thing rocks, but the Way Out song and the Humpty song are favorites, and Day Camp answers the question "what if the Ramones wrote a children's song?" If your kid likes to dance, you can get a workout - this is good for that post-pregnancy flab!
A good CD, but not as good as Great Big Sun or Yellow Bus.
author: RobEnjoyable and filled with some great hooks. Humpty Dumpty's wall will never be the same after listening to Roberts' poetic twist on the old rhyme. However, the album lacks the melodic elegance of Roberts' grand slam album Great Big Sun.
May be Justin Roberts' best yet
author: JenWe love, love, LOVE this CD -- Justin Roberts writes absolutely infectious music, and "Way Out" is no exception. His songs run the gamut from funny ("Airplane of Food" and "Doctor, Doctor") to sweetly sentimental ("Roller in the Coaster") and all get our kids, and us, singing along.
Great CD!! The whole family loved it. As my daughter says, these songs are "sticky" you cant get them out of your head. Lots of fun!
Good Stuff
author: Adrian + MaureenLove Justin Roberts music! He's great, fun, easy to sing and dance to the music. Love it!
Happy music for kids and adults!
author: TanyaThis CD is peppy, and an instant favorite with our 2 and 6 year old girls! What we (the parents)love about it is that this music appeals to kids without making the beat and the lyrics simple or boring. We especially like the rocking "Daycamp" song as well as the title song "Way Out." Thanks Justin and Liam for another fabulous album!
Hey, don't hesitate to buy this album! Parents rock to it just as much as the k
author: Kurt WeaklandOnce again this is a must have CD from Justin and Liam. If I had to have 4 kids CD's in my car, and no others, this one and the 3 others would be it. I like it, my wife likes it, and the kids rock to it. THANK YOU!
More great tunes!
author: CooperWe just saw Justin perform songs from this latest cd. The songs have a great upbeat flair. We are loving it as much as we do the others. What fun!!
