The world has only one moonport...on a skinny island that contains Cape Canaveral and Cocoa Beach. In the 1960s, Cocoa Beach was on an island with mosquitos, surfing, Cape Canaveral, boats, the press, German scientists, tourists, sting ray bicycles, sting rays, The Pink Wedge, Teen Town, The Officer's Club, astronauts running on the beach, astronauts in parades, drugs, beach girls, manatees, dolphins and sharks...
For a straight Cocoa Beach 20th century narrative, listen to "Last Cocoa Beach Song." The complete arc of a night-launch of a Jupiter-C. Think Joyce's "The Dead". Got it?
Robert's voice is a traveler's escaping as tourists and retirees flow into the Sunshine State. Guitar, vocal, and electronics woven into a t-shirt hitchhiking down A1A.
Cocoa Beach Songs is Robert Edgar's collection of anthropoetic songs about the island. Spanning the days of the early space program through the explosion of the Challenger, Robert's electric folk music paints new images of a place that no longer exists. The missile gantries have rusted and were hauled off, the white beaches eroded by hurricanes, and the patches of beach scrub jungle ripped out and replaced by condos.
Never has the universe been more local.
