Rob Canfield is a drummer/composer. He has a bachelors degree in percussion performance and a masters in theory/composition. He is also a graduate of PIT. Rob started playing drums professionally, in nightclubs, at the age of twelve. He continued as a nightclub drummer to pay his way through college. During his education, he had the opportunity to play with such people as Dizzy Gillespie and Lou Fischer. After playing for different band leaders over the years, Rob got weary of playing cover-tunes and standards. He quit working for other musicians and set out on his own. As a result, Rob now composes, arranges, produces, and performs original compositions. Prelude to a New Dawn, for instance, is a four-movement concerto featuring the drumset with orchestral accompaniment. This composition, similar to a true classical concerto, features the solo instrumentalist - the drummer - as the featured performer.
