Children's/Family. Songs for kids and kids at heart.

notes

Robbie Schaefer’s SONGS FOR KIDS LIKE US is the first collection of music for kids and families by the singer/songwriter of the critically acclaimed folk-pop band Eddie From Ohio.

With 9 albums and 120,000 independent record sales under their belt, Eddie From Ohio earned the plaudit “the greatest band you’ve never heard of” by US Airways’ Attache magazine. Now, with the release of SONGS FOR KIDS LIKE US, Schaefer presents what easily could be tagged “the best CD your kids haven’t heard of—yet.”

Never straying far from his folk-pop roots, Schaefer presents a memorable 12-song collection of catchy, clever, and slightly cheeky tunes that take the listener on a romp through musical styles and colorful arrangements that appeal to both kids and kids at heart.

Among the original tracks are the tales of a little brother who won’t eat anything, a fish in a tub who eats everything, an accident-prone professor, and an affable cowboy who can only speak backward. (His name, of course: Bob.) Traditional tunes such as “There Ain’t No Bugs on Me” and “There’s A Hole in The Bucket” receive imaginative treatments to round out the track list.

Guest spots from keyboardist Jon Carroll (Mary-Chapin Carpenter; Starland Vocal Band), trumpeter John Abbracciamento, bassist Matt Grason and EFO bandmates Eddie Hartness and Michael Clem add to the fun. Noted kids’ illustrator Jack Desrocher contributes the whimsical character illustrations to the CD packaging.

  • Album's great, and even better at a live show

We love listening to this album, and to Robbie Schaefer's show on XM Radio. Even better was his live show at Wolf Trap this summer. Robbie, more kids albums, please!!

  • Wish he had more albums for kids!!!

this is my kids' all time favorite album--we wish Robbie Schaefer would come out with another kids album! He is local to our area and we try to go to his concerts when we can--he is good at relaying the stories behind some of the songs at the concerts as well, and since he is a performer (Eddie from Ohio) for grownups as well, he knows how to keep mom and dad happy while listening to the album too!! I only wish we could find a performer my kids liked as much as Robbie Schaefer!

  • PERFECT AND SO MUCH FUN!

We ALL love the CD, and my three year old can sing most of the songs now. Her favorite, of course, is NO! NO! NO!, personally, I'm a fan of "Sally Can I Walk You Home". It's a great CD and we couldn't be more pleased! Good Job, Robbie!

  • Very good album for toddlers and infants.

This is a wonderful album for little kids. The songs are well written, and understandable to kids (even if somewhat nonsensical). It's comparitively enjoyable for adults too; you won't cringe (much) when you hear the carp in the bathtub song for the 50th time. This album doesn't have any of the cheap effects and distracting noise you hear on some CDs. In sum, I highly recommend it.

  • This is about the best kids cd I have heard

Funny, entertaining and great upbeat music. There is a talented writer behind these lyrics. I am a childrens music teacher and I am always looking for stuff to keep the energy level up with kids... this does it with keen humor and joy. I would even say that I think this is THE BEST kids album out there. And the best thing is that EVERY song is good...that is hard to find! My kids favorite songs are the Resolution Song and No,No,No, but as I said they are all great!I must say that I rate this as my all time favorite CD, but I guess you know that by now!

I really enjoyed this cd. Especially the multiple instruments in many songs.... and the story-teller aspect.... great! great!

In the process of reviewing kids' albums, I often hold my breath, waiting to be beat over the head with slide-whistles, kazoos and sweet-talking grannies if not dippy MIDI-based textures and outdated sound effects. In this way, "Songs For Kids Like Us" generated a sigh of relief and then a smile of genuine appreciation, for here is an artist who finds no need to 'dumb down' music for the small people and who can bridge both accessibility and age-appropriate content with solid, well-written, thoughtfully-conceived songs built on real instruments, "normal" singing voices and backed by an enthusiastic choir of kids. Largely based on folk, Robbie Schaefer's style is both fun and silly but at its heart, is driven by quality and integrity.
