notes
It really began in the Adirondack Mountains a few years back when Bill and Gene hammered out "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" for the first time around a raucous campfire. There's nothing quite like the sound of acoustic guitar and banjo under a clear night sky amid the pines and hardwoods surrounding Lake George. Thus began the Riverview Ramblers... so named because we mostly all live in some proximity to Riverview Road, overlooking the Mohawk River in upstate New York (near Albany, Schenectady, Troy). We play a variety of tunes ranging from straight-ahead bluegrass to newgrass and Americana and a few things in between. This is homemade, hometown bluegrass music... full of spontaneity, camaraderie, and the acoustic vibe!
Recorded during Winter & Spring of 2005 at Cotton Hill Studios, Albany, New York. Engineered and mixed by the one and only Ace Parkhurst.
Guitars by Gallagher, Taylor, and Larrivee. Banjos by Gibson and Nechville (thanks Michelle!). Mandolin by Kentucky. Josh's upright bass was a rental. Pete used a Rickenbacker electric bass. We're not quite sure where all of Dale's harmonicas came from... but there sure are a lot of them!
The Ramblers would like to thank the Gibson Brothers for inspiration and for letting us record Leigh Gibson's wonderful tunes "Railroad Line" and "The Open Road." Thanks guys!
Thanks also to everybody that has come out to hear us play. We love playing bluegrass, and we really appreciate the enthusiastic response!

"Last but not least, the Riverview Ramblers. Now what can I say, but WOW!!! These guys really have it together & everyone loved them. They had two encores and they also helped Bob Flynn in raising donations for the N.E.C.M.A."

"The Ramblers performed at the [Bluegrass Showcase] and caught the attention of Dan and Jan at the Roadhouse. They landed a few gigs, the first of which was on Sunday, February 11th. Catherine Benson, Joe Gero, and I attended the show which was great! This band has a following that is unbelievable. The Riverview Ramblers drew a crowd that was almost as BIG AS THE CROWD OUR SHOWCASE HAD DRAWN. I ENCOURAGE ANYONE THAT IS IN THE AREA WHERE THIS BAND IS PLAYING TO STOP BY AND GIVE A LISTEN. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. THEY WILL BE PLAYING AGAIN AT JAN'S ROADHOUSE ON SUNDAY MARCH 18TH [2007] 4PM-7PM."

Fantastic chops and energy!
author: Bluegrass Fan!Wow! I really enjoy this group! I've seen them perform live a couple of times, and they've got this incredible energy and a really great sound. The CD does an excellent job of capturing that. I especially like their version of "Carolina in the Pines" and also the mid-tempo tune "You Plant Your Fields." Altogether, this is one heck of a toe-tapping CD. Great for driving!!!
Not bad for a bunch of Yankees!
author: Jake BarnsNot really sure how it happened? Was sittin in a bar named after a Pig, North of the Mason Dixon Line....Next thing I know I stumbled into a Barn on the Mabee Farm. Best damn Bluegrass music I ever heard in my life. Thought it might have been the booze but they sounded just as good on CD! You gotta hear these guys! I know a fellar ain't suppose to comment on artist in general, but that little gal can sure sing and she's easy on the eyes too!
Band should do a live CD, this one is GREAT!
author: Annika E.I stumbled onto this band by accident at a jazz club (what a bluegrass band was doing playing at a jazz club, I'll never know, but there you have it). They were so much fun I bought their CD. It's a wonderful compilation of traditional and new bluegrass tunes. I think the band should do a concert CD. It would be good to capture some of their live energy (they have plenty!). I love listening to them. I've been playing First Harvest in my car and enjoy it more each time I listen. My favorites are Wayfaring Stranger and Plant Your Fields. I love what the Ramblers do vocally and instrumentally. I hope they'll make another CD in the near future.
Huge Talent, Excellent Pitch and Tempo, Just Needs a little Fuller Sound
author: The Incredible Edible EggThis CD is extremely listenable and the talent of the musicians and vocalists is very evident. The song choices were good and I especially liked the banjo/soprano version of the Lennon/McCartney classic "I Will". The only shortcoming, at least from my perspective, is too much emphasis on individual talent, so the band loses a little of that fullness of sound when all the parts are in perfect sync. I imagine that as they continue to play they will be more of a unified whole rather than excellent parts.
