notes
Live at City Stage is the long awaited live CD by noted songwriter and performer Jim Ritchey. This unedited set recorded at a festival in Greensboro, NC captures Ritchey in his natural element - singing his own songs to an appreciative audience. The performance is comfortable, intimate, and, like the music, is stunning in its simplicity. If you like good honest acoustic music, prepare to be entertained.
BIO
Since 1970 Jim Ritchey has sung his songs for audiences of all descriptions, in every imaginable venue, all over the country. From East Coast coffee houses to Las Vegas convention centers, Kansas nursing homes to the Knoxville World's Fair, Austin clubs to Nashville showcases, his acoustic blend of country, folk, and rock music and his wry sense of humor have won Ritchey the respect of critics and fellow artists alike. Dallas music critic, Sean Mitchell, described Jim's songs as "....beautiful American music, so pure it seems almost classical by contemporary Nashville standards", while country music star Michael Martin Murphy once said, "Jim Ritchey is one of the best songwriters in Texas."
Ritchey learned his craft as a songwriter and performer in Texas playing the famous club scenes in Austin and Dallas. As a solo act and with long-time partner BeJae Fleming, Jim performed in colleges, clubs, coffee houses, and concerts in more than twenty states, and shared the bill with such music legends as Lightin' Hopkins, Big Mama Thornton, Doug Kershaw, Townes Van Zandt, Emmylou Harris, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and many others. Jim's songs have been recorded by more than a dozen artists including Kenny Rogers on his multi-platinum album, "The Gambler", and have been performed on the popular PBS series Austin City Limits, as well as radio stations around the world.
Now Jim Ritchey returns to the stage as a solo performer, flat picking and finger picking his vintage Martin guitar and singing very special songs of the human experience - sad songs, funny songs, songs of loss and songs of renewal - all delivered with the warmth and humor of a long-time professional.
