notes

Grandfather Ridiculous is a New York City based original music group. All of us met at the New School University in Manhattan circa early 2000. Since our first performance at New York City's Union Square Summer Concert Series in August of 2001 we have been working at creating grooving original music for dancing, partying, and reflection. Our music now represents influences from a wide array of musical genres including Hip Hop, Drum 'n Bass, Rock, Jazz, and Funk.

Lately we have been playing shows to crowds in New York City, Brooklyn, Philadelphia, New Jersey, Connecticut and Massachusetts. We have been honored with opening for Lake Trout, The Jazz Mandolin Project, and The ReBirth Brass Band!

This is our first EP containing some of our fans favorite songs. It's a mix of our hip-hop sound, with some drum 'n bass, house, and funk mixed in. Hope you enjoy!

Sheer class. Standout track Dr. Memory, one of the finest electrified jazz-hop extravaganzas I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing.

It is a hybrid of hip-hop an jazz, with a little bit of electronic trip hop thrown in. I can so hear this as backing music on any MTV show. Soothing as well as though provoking. Has a tangible earthy quality. Hip hop that is this expressive is rare, and you'll appreciate the unique inflections they bring to the table. Great urban spring/summertime music.

  • If you miss a little group called Tribe, then you will rejoice
    author: Doo-Dirty

I must say I first heard and I was truely floored. I have to see them live, it's a must for any music fan. If you miss the vibe of A Tribe Called Quest, then you will rejoice. They are here, if Tribe never gets back together, I will be ok, this group fuels great energy for the soul, and that's why I have to buy this album. These guys are great and hope they produce more hits from the underground. Keep it comin' guys.

  • EP Keeps the Vibe of Live Shows!
    author: Violet Loves Ridiculous

I love seeing these guys play live; the power and energy of their shows keeps you wanting more even after you've stepped out the door of the club. Now, thanks to this CD, I can bring these ridiculous boys wherever my little heart desires. Now I just wish they'd make an LP.

A really solid collection of jazz influenced hip-hop. Sounds like it would be great live too. The rhymes are listenable, the music accomplished and the overall sound is easy to enjoy. A refreshing spin on hip-hop. Definitely recommended.

  • Good CD - Good Live Band!!!
    author: Lara O.

Excellent mix for the first time listener of Grandfather. A good sampling of their artistry. Go see this band live if you get the chance!

  • My name for y`all is "Baby Roots"
    author: P Soup

I love anything with orginality. I dont think you guys are trying to sound like the Roots but its like you guys are the Roots on a different level. Like if Duke Ellington and Miles Davis provided your music...lol. Straight up the tracks I heard are flava. Keep it live, keep it real and keep it hip hop. I like how y`all do. 1

  • They're like, my favorite band.
    author: ARock

I'm a musician and if I could do what they do, I wouldn't do what I do. These are some of my favorite songs by them, but they write so much music, and all of it is so good...and it keeps getting better. Oh, and believe the hype, when they play live, it's the baddest shit in the world.

  • Great Live Band

I received this cd as a demo and when I put it in, everyone in the office asked what I was listening to. Shortly after, I went to see them live and what a great experience! These young men can revive your faith in good music. Everyone seemed to be having a great time too which completely added to the whole experience.

  • Kickin'
    author: Average Joe

This CD is GREAT! This is a good representation of what the band is capable of doing...BUT YA GOTTO SEE THEM LIVE! An unforgetable experience! One set after the other...it just keeps getting better! Keep it coming yo!
