MY NAME IS RICHIE KOTZEN AND I AM A GUITARIST/SINGER/SONGWRITER.
I STARTED LEARNING THE ELECTRIC GUITAR WHEN I WAS SEVEN YEARS OLD
IN MY HOME TOWN OF READING PENNNSYLVANIA.
AT THE AGE OF 12 I FORMED MY FIRST BAND AND PERFORMED LIVE
CONSISTANTLY IN THE PENNSYLVANIA, DELAWARE, NEWJERSEY AREA
UNTIL I GRADUATED FROM HIGH SCHOOL.
WHEN I TURNED 18 I WENT WEST TO SAN FRANCISCO AND RECORDED
MY FIRST ALBUM FOR A COMPANY KNOWN AS SHRAPNEL RECORDS.
THAT SAME YEAR I WAS FEATURED ON SEVERAL MAGAZINE COVERS
INCLUDING GUITAR WORLD MAGAZINE AND WAS VOTED ONE OF THE TOP 3
BEST NEW GUITARISTS THAT YEAR BY THE READERS OF
GUITAR WORLD MAGAZINE. I RECORDED THREE RECORDS FOR THE
SHRAPNEL LABEL GROUP AND THEN MOVED TO LOS ANGELES
CALIFORNIA. IT WAS THEN THAT I WAS INVITED TO JOIN THE MULTI PLATINUM
GLAM METAL BAND KNOWN AS POISON.
I RECORDED ONE CD WITH THE BAND AND DID A WORLD TOUR IN SUPPORT
OF THE CD. MY SONG STAND REACHED #4 ON MTV’S MOST WANTED
AND WAS IN THE TOP 20 IN BILLBOARD MAGAZINE.
OUR RECORD EVENTUALLY REACHED THE PLATINUM SALES STATUS.
AFTER FINISHING MY OBLIGATIONS WITH THE GROUP I WENT BACK TO
BEING A SOLO ARTIST AND RELEASED SEVERAL RECORDS ON VARIOUS LABELS
INCLUDING SHRAPNEL, GEFFEN, AND JVC UNTIL I WAS INVITED BY JAZZ LEGEND
STANLEY CLARKE TO FORM THE BAND VERTU.
WE RECORDED OUR SELF-TITLED CD FOR SONY AND SPENT
THE SUMMER IN EUROPE PLAYING JAZZ FESTIVALS. IT WAS AN HONOR AND A
GREAT EXPERIENCE TO BE IN A BAND WITH MR CLARKE AND THE REST OF THE
MEMBERS OF THE BAND. THAT SAME YEAR I JOINED THE ROCK BAND MR BIG
WHICH IS KNOWN FOR THEIR NUMBER ONE SONG “TO BE WITH YOU”.
WE PLAYED THE OSAKA DOME WITH AEROSMITH IN 1999
FOR THE MILLENIUM COUNT DOWN. I RECORDED AND WROTE 2 STUDIO
RECORDS WITH MR BIG AND HAD MY FIRST NUMBER ONE SINGLE IN JAPAN
WITH A SONG I WROTE CALLED SHINE.
WHEN MR BIG DISBANDED I WENT BACK TO MAKING MY SOLO RECORDS.
SINCE THEN I HAVE BEEN TOURING ALL OVER THE WORLD AS A SOLO ARTIST
PLAYING CLUBS, OUTDOOR FESTIVALS, AND MOST RECENTLY STADIUMS
IN JAPAN AS THE OPENING ACT FOR THE ROLLING STONES
A BIGGER BANG TOUR 2006.
TOURING AND MAKING MUSIC IS MY LIFE. IT IS ALL I HAVE EVER DONE.
I AM VERY GRATEFUL TO ALL OF THE PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD
WHO HAVE MADE THAT POSSIBLE.

    I'm floored. I was always aware of Richie and his talent, but only recently have I dug into his solo catalog. His music hasn't left my car in 2 months. The total package. Think Jeff Buckley but better. I'm not kidding.......

    I love guitars. I heard Richie years ago. He was pretty darn good. As time went by I kind of lost interest in the whole shread thing ( like most of us ). I got the CD after reading the Guitar Player article about him. This stuff rules. Great songs. Guitars and vocals are all super strong. And I like the fact that it has a raw feel to it. When the material is that good you dont need too many overdubs!

    I've been a fan since MHFR and always love Richie's playing and his voice is amazing. If I was blessed with that voice I wouldn't be sitting writing this I tell you. The new Get Up album I recieved with anticipation fell short and I was sad. Where did our love go? I mean our Tone go? The guitar tone is terrible, and the recording sounds like a demo. The voice is always great sounding but everything else sounds unfinished and unproduced. Richie the songs are great, the playing is great, but it may be time to bring in a producer with some fresh ears. Just a thought.

    The vocals remind me of Chris Cornell formerly of Soundgarden and now Audioslave. Richie's guitar player is outstanding throughout and the songs are strong for the most part. I highly recommend this CD.

    Although I enjoyed his previous album "Change" more, this is still a very strong Kotzen album. Some of the lyrics are bit uninspiring (ie "Get Up") but the guitar work is top notch. His guitar tone is very raw, very big and dynamic which really compliments his versatile songwriting chops. This CD just proves again that Richie can do anything from catchy pop/R&B to hard rock, from beatiful Hendrix-esque ballads to scary blues fusion-esque chops. A great musician all-around.

    I was expecting a bit more from Richie Kotzen with this last album. He definitely kept the song lengths at a minimum making these radio-friendly in that sense. But there just wasn't that many hooks and songs that really make you want to sing along. It has it's moments and Richie's singing and playing are as always, top notch. I'd recommend this CD to Kotzen fans in general, but his album "Change" was a much stronger and catchier album.

    Most of the songs are pretty good. This album isn't as good as "Break it Down" or "Mothershead family reunion". I guess I'm spoiled by some of the older, better stuff, but die hard fans will probably love it.

    este CD es uno de los mejores que editó RK en su carrera. he escuchado TODOS sus (desde el debut solista hasta los de VERTU, el tributo a deep purple y todos esos), y creo que está 2º luego de 'WHAT IS'... los mejores tracks son 'fantasy', 'get up' y 'so cold'.

    I'm in absolute complete and utter awe as to how this man can keep putting out such stunning albums, each having a completely different flavour to the last. I wouldnt agree with the Mother Heads comparisons, there's a different flavour here again - something that I cant quite put my finger on ... again ...which I guess makes it magical! :) Do not hestitate for a second when buying this - oh and get the superb acoustic cuts too! Kudos to CD Baby for a fast ship to England too - thank you very much! :)

    Get Up is Richie's most Hard Rock album since Mother Head's Family Reunion. In fact, it even surpasses that album, one of his best, in terms of sheer rock-ability, at times. Every song contains a great solo, and in some, Richie even manages to squeeze in a second solo. Unbelievable. Richie's voice is back to its throaty howl, as well. Even though Get Up is quite a departure from his most recent albums, Richie has crafted yet another fine album that showcases his ever-changing sound. Get Up is an all-out attack.

    Kotzen has delivered an album of straight ahead rock that is like a breath of fresh air for the genre. Surpisingly good vocals emote over Richie's classic blues-tinged guitar lines. This is GREAT stuff.
