notes

Sergei Rachmaninoff, Russian Composer [1873-1943]
"Music is enough for a lifetime, but a lifetime is not enough for music" -S. Rachmaninoff.

Sergei Rachmaninoff was born on April 1, 1873, on a large estate near the ancient city of Novgorod, Russia. His father was an army officer and his mother was a wealthy heiress. His father gambled, drank, and squandered his wife's money. He deserted his family when Sergei was nine years old.

By all accounts Young Sergei was a problem child, but had an extraordinary talent at the piano. At age nine he entered the College of Music in St. Petersburg. Because of his natural gift, Sergei did not bother to study. To solve his discipline problem Rachmaninoff moved to Moscow to live with Nikolai Zvereff of the Moscow Conservatory. Zvereff was one of the leading music teachers in Russia at the time. In 1892, Rachmaninoff graduated from the conservatory with high honors.

In 1909, Rachmaninoff made his first visit to the United States, receiving an enthusiastic welcome. Afterwards, he visited America once every season. Rachmaninoff died on March 28, 1943, only a few weeks after attaining his American citizenship, and five days before his seventieth birthday. During his career Rachmaninoff wrote 145 compositions, including piano concertos and symphonies.

Mr. Parrish is a college graduate and former music educator. He vows to draw you into his piano performance of these nine beautiful Rachmaninoff compositions. You will be drawn so close as to practically feel the notes he plays. These interpretations are that of Mr. Parrish and his ability to perform Rachmaninoff piano compositions.

These compositions are NOT live but have been recorded in his private studio on a Suzuki HG-600ex 6' Digital Concert Grand Piano; mixed and engineered with a Roland VS2480 24 track professional mixer. What you hear in these digital samples is not what you would experience in your own CD player; but even BETTER - especially with headphones on! An interesting note is that there are many concert pianists that play these compositions and each have their own interpretations and styles.

Mr. Parrish asks, "who's interpretation is correct?" His answer is - no one's; because listeners/performers find what they like about the music and/or performance and respond accordingly. His challenge to all who listen to these selections is to follow along with the music in hand and discover these are not robotic, eyes and heart closed without-concern-for-human-interpretation butchered renditions.

Copy and Paste the following and you will discover the extremely wide range of music he has in his music library: http://www.pianofiles.com?365326 This library material spans across composers like Scarlatti to Gershwin and ALL are performed within his extraordinary style of putting you close to the music. Every customer of Mr. Parrish is completely satisfied with this unique style and continue to demand more. He's extremely confident that you will NOT be disappointed!

You will find yourself playing this CD over and over again for it's recording artistry but also for the artistry of these Rachmaninoff piano solo compositions.
