This is a very beautiful piano album that is deep, contemplative and, in turn, burns passionately, as it takes you on a magical journey of the senses....

Richard James is an innovative and talented artist who has far-ranging interests. This becomes evident upon even a cursory examination of bluemountain.com, for which he was the lead music contributor from 1996 through 2001. Richard has a background in classical piano and string bass, and for a number of years played in many of the local orchestras in San Diego, as well as performing in many Broadway shows. He has performed extensively in nightclubs and worked countless private engagements, and concert situations. As a result of his experience, Richard has developed a broad variety of approaches to the tasks of composition and arrangement. He absolutely delighted in his work for the site during his term and we hope you do as well...

Richard has played in virtually all the major spots around San Diego, including the Civic Theatre and Symphony Hall as well as the"Del," Holiday Inns, Hyatts, Marriotts, Sheratons, US Grant., not to mention engagements in the LA area and New York..... Some of the shows he has worked are Grease, Meet Me in St. Louis, Pia Zadora, South Pacific, etc., as well as productions for Starlight and the Old Globe. He has played with such jazz and blues greats as Terry Gibbs, Charles McPherson, Illinois Jacquett, Big Mama Thornton, etc......

Since leaving bluemountain.com he has continued performing in the greater San Diego area, and is beginning to take on various recording projects at his studio, graced in 2001 with the purchase of a brand-new Steinway "B" grand, which, he adds, "records beautifully... "

about this CD:
Peace to all. From time to time, circumstances and energy converge to open up new possibilities... Musicians have the power to create, within the bounds of the "fleeting present," soundscapes which can mirror the vast recesses of the soul. That's a lot of territory to cover and I know it will keep us busy for quite some time.. In the scheme of things it isn't that often that recording equipment is at the ready to "take it down" for future reference. The music in this album is the product of two consecutive nights in my studio. I view it as a celebration of what can happen when one lets go and allows the spontaneous flow of the spirit we are all connected to, and are a part of, to express itself. All but one of the pieces ("Olivia's Song") were generated on the spot without any preconceived notions. On the other hand, I have been strongly influenced by the richness, the passion and the beauty that is in jazz, classical, contemplative and other world music. As I played, all of this flowed out from within. I was in a zone. I felt an intoxicating sense of adventure, and peace, and a clarity and an openness to whatever might occur... I hope that some of this will communicate to you as you partake of the experience... RJ
