Rockers of the world, today there is good news: the heroes are back! Rex Paul, long-time Nashville engineer, producer and session guitar player, has released his latest CD, Hero Shuffle, which includes monster solos from rock guitar giants Eric Johnson, Phil Keaggy and Dann Huff. Combined with Rex Paul's own tasty licks, this CD is stuffed to the gills with 14 cuts of pure fretboard magic that no rock 'n roll aficionado can afford to miss.
"I have come to believe that Rex Schnelle is one of the best guitarists around these days." Says guitar legend Phil Keaggy, "His versatility is obvious on his own and many other recordings he has lent his hands to. Be sure to listen to his latest CD. Great stuff!"
Virtuoso Eric Johnson believes, "Rex is a talented musician, not only with a fine guitar style, but as an accomplished singer and song writer as well."
And from legendary producer and shredmeister Dann Huff, "In essence, Rex is in total control of his instrument. Chops are not an issue – Rex has prowess and more. But in a day when people are willing to just 'put out music,' one is immediately aware that Rex's passion comes across strongly from the first note – there is no higher praise I can give."
The opening cut, Blue Sky Morning, will give listeners a taste of what's to come, moving from a monstrous wall-of-sound guitar grind to soaring vocals to Dann Huff's lightning-strike guest solo. The CD moves seamlessly from a wall of sound to the jazz-inspired, Roger Waters meets George Benson tone of the metropolitan Always Been Her, then marches forward to the jaw-dropping enfilade of Hero Shuffle, featuring both Eric Johnson and Phil Keaggy to compliment Rex's own barrage of string-stretching guitar artillery. Half the fun of listening is trying to figure out who is playing at any given time.
While the CD explores the outer limits of guitar artistry, it never forgets the craft of the song itself. Rex teams with veteran writers like Tom Douglas to provide a masterfully built foundation of songwriting on which Rex and his friends nail together a house of rock 'n roll magic. From the all-out attitude of Another Player In My Game to the sensuous and melodic Circle With No End, the lyrics match the intensity of the guitar licks by pushing both emotional and sonic boundaries. The auditory craftsmanship of this CD is truly inspiring.
Originally from Marble Falls, Texas , Rex has been in Nashville for 17 years and is currently a producer for Sony on Nashville's famous Music Row. Rex has worked with a diverse group of artists, such as Jon Bon Jovi, Jessica Simpson, Randy Bachman, Jack Blades, Waylon Jennings, Jim Brickman, Bill Anderson, Merle Haggard, Olivia Newton John, and producing and playing on thousands of recordings.

I recommend full volume...
author: The DREric, Phil, Dan AND Rex. Enough said... This CD is a powerhouse of great guitar and melody!
"Another great guitar player most people have never heard of ! "
author: Ted MillerIf you're into progressive rock, good songwriting, great guitar tone and licks that will make you say, "How'd he do that?", then you need to give this a listen. Sometimes you just gotta hear some good electric guitar sounds. It's all in there, especially if you like the "Eric Johnson" type sounds. None of the buzzy, crappy distortion sounds here,...metalheads probably won't like it,...who cares? This guy has talent and substance.
Great CD!

This is the best guitar rock I heard in the last years
author: André PawlitzkiIf you love big guitars, a wall of sound, this one is for you. Rex Paul lays down some tasty licks himself and is supported by Dann Huff (of Giant fame) and guitar legends Eric Johnson and Phil Keaggy. But altough the guitar work is top notch, this CD does not only contain uninhibited shredding, but has also some very good songs on it, which mark Rex Paul as a serious artist. Let´s hear some more!

author: Paul C. QuillmanI have been waiting not so very patiently to do this post, for several weeks. Now that this record is finally out, I can make some noise about it. Honestly, I have had a hard time containing myself. When I first heard this record, it immediately went on my “Must Own” list. And these days, that is becoming a shorter and shorter list. There is really something for everyone here. If you are someone that likes to listen to great progressive rock, or if you are a guitar aficionado, Hero Shuffle is for you. For someone who likes to just listen to great music, this is a great record. This is the kind of record that you just want to grab on your way to the convertible, take the top off, and drive, with the sound somewhere around 10. Make sure that it is sunny, and around 75 degrees or more. For you guitar players, be ready to be blown away. The riffs will have you wanting more. And after listening to the title cut, Hero Shuffle, you will promptly take all of your gear, and place it in the nearest trashcan. The combination of Rex, Phil Keaggy and Eric Johnson is unbelievable. By the end of the record, you will go back to that trashcan and pull all of your gear out, put it back in place, and resolve to be a better player. Power songs like Blue Sky Morning (featuring Dan Huff), Faith, Hope, Love and my favorite, The Best That I Can Do, set high standards for progressive rock excellence. Additionally, strong ballads like Circle With No End, Welcome to Heaven, and Holy Serenade demonstrate well-crafted music and lyrics. Finally, songs like Always Been Her, Temporary Sanity and Teach Me How To Love You show Rex’s versatility as an artist. This is what Phil, Eric, and Dan have to say about Rex, and Hero Shuffle: "I have come to believe that Rex is one of the best guitarists around these days... be sure to listen to his latest CD. Great stuff-Phil Keaggy "Rex is a talented musician, not only with a fine guitar style, but as an accomplished singer and song writer as well." -Eric Johnson "In essence, Rex is in total control of his instrument. Chops are not an issue... there is no higher praise I can give." - Dan Huff This is the best record I have gotten my hands on in a long time. So, from The Next Reformation, to those about to rock, we salute you!
