notes

'Colour Me Blue' is the result of a very special collaboration between guitarist/composer Ross King and London-based singer-songwriter Rachael Bell.

"It's divine. The vocals are rich and smooth, like sucking up melted Galaxy chocolate through a straw made of gold. In effect, we're talking about a real soul find..."

"'Colour Me Blue' is a smooth, finely crafted pop album - pick any superlative you like, they'll likely suit this album. My favourite is magical and hypnotic..."

"With a dreamy magic, a dark outlook and, no doubt, the odd tear-stained lace hankie, 'Colour Me Blue' evokes the windswept vistas of The Cocteau Twins, All About Eve and Mazzy Star. Rachael offsets the icy fragility with an earthy passion that's part Nina Simone, part Joni Mitchell - nine tracks of bleak, beautiful bigness..."

"The music flows, with guitar arpeggios lilting you to sleep, soothing and atmospheric, layers and textures of music with accomplished arrangements and musicianship..."

a melodic version of Level 42, a really different but nice CD!

  • Dreamy laid-back pop

Reuben's Thread provides the slow-paced, atmospheric groove, while RachaelRachael adds her deep and soulful vocals to the mix. There's an 80's-era R&B vibe going on, possibly stemming from the fact that Rachael doesn't overdo her singing parts, as many singers in this post-Idol era tend to do. She keeps it smooth and subtle, letting her voice woo us with gentle skill. Very nice.

  • Superb Easy Listening Album
    author: John Richardson

This is a great album to listen to when you want to take it easy and relax. The gentle instrumental work compliments the hypnotic vocals of RachelRachel who has a voice I could listen to for hours, it is close to perfection and very easy on the ear. The stand out tracks for me are Sunset and Colour Me Blue but the quality of the other tracks is good. I enjoyed this as much as I enjoyed RachelRachel's Raw Sunday.
