Biography: Rene Jones
Born & raised in Columbus, Ga., Rene was introduced to music at an early age. Being the daughter of a church choir pianist made it easy for music to be imbedded deep in her spirit. Once of age, she became a member in the choir her mother played for, thus beginning her journey in music.
"I've always been ahead of my years in terms of the music that captured my attention. I'm greatly influenced by the old-school music my Mom would play around the house." Rene has an appreciation for all genres of music. I love good music in general. “I listen to music from The O’Jays, Donnie Hathaway, Floetry, Maroon 5, John Mayer, George Duke and Jay-Z to Shania Twain.” Her musical influences include Angie Stone, Anita Baker, Jill Scott and Toni Braxton.
"I initially began writing poetry. Soon after, the poetry and my love of good music combined and turned into songwriting. I love the art of creating good music...music with a message."
Rene is the executive producer of her independent debut album "Chill Factor". The album was released January 2007. This album is a collection of love songs. Love of lovers, love of self, love of good feelings & love of inspiration. On this album Rene displays exceptional skill in writing songs that tell a complete story or conveys an emotion from beginning to end.
Rene has had the privilege and great experience of working with some very talented producers, songwriters and vocalists on this album. According to Rene, "The entire project has seemed destined from the beginning because it's never been 'hard to do'. Everything has come together easily. I’m grateful that the effort allowed me to pen 9 of the 13 songs on the CD while creating or contributing to the vocal arrangements in all 13. It’s a wonderful creative outlet.”

Her voice is warm, mature and soulful – instantly recalling the wonderful Anita Baker. That Baker link will be most obvious on the album’s immediate grabber – ‘Everything I Need’. It’s a wonderful mid-tempo item with tight beats and scorching sax interludes that will remind you of Kirk Whalum, even David Sanborn. But it’s the pleading vocal that makes the cut what it is. Elsewhere there’s plenty of sultry ballads – best typified by ‘Sensuality’. Sub-titled ‘Kama Sutra Love’ its hot stuff for a church–reared girl. Dancers might be tempted off the wall by the mid-tempo title track or the two step shuffle that is ‘You Know’ – this one really builds towards the end. Other goodies include the light vibe that is ‘Summer Day’ (with a quasi-rap that may recall Jazzy Jeff’s similarly named epic) and ‘Stay’ which features some great interplay with the backing singers. Indeed for an indie album, there’s been no stinting on the production and the songs aren’t the usual self-written, self-produced plodders you often get with indie sets. Take my word for it, here’s an album and an artist that deserves to be right up there with the big soul players.
