notes
Renata Youngblood was born to a family of artists from Denmark in Los Angeles, California. There was no question as to what her particular art-form would be when she began playing the piano by ear at the age of three. Since then she has gone through 12 years of classical music studies and has either won or received ‘honorable mention’ in a number of composition contests. Falling in love with the guitar, both acoustic and electric, she began constructing a sound that fused breathy, sultry, and rich vocals with words free of trite cliches, yet full of wisdom beyond her years. Some of this insight is due to the fact that both of her parents had disappeared before she was 15 years old, forcing Renata to become a strong and resourceful woman, finishing school with the assistance of welfare and food-stamps. It was song-writing that helped her through these years and subsequently led her to pursue performance as her career of choice.
Renata relocated to San Diego and quickly made her mark in many local venues as well as the local radio stations. Mike Halloran of San Diego's FM 94.9 radio station has said this of Renata, "She sounds as though she has a soul that is 6,000 years old."
Renata met David J of ‘Bauhaus’ and ‘Love and Rockets’ in 2004. David J, the producer of her debut album 'The Side Effects of Owning Skin' that was released June 1, 2006, has been an integral part of catapulting Renata's career from songwriter to international star. Renata's first release with J, an EP titled 'Weightless,' was nominated for a 2005 LA Music Award in the Adult Alternative category.
The release of 'The Side Effects of Owning Skin,' was immediately followed by a string of successful shows across the UK and Ireland. In addition to digital distribution via i-tunes, Towerrecords.com, and Amazon.com, Renata now has UK distribution through Empathy Records, making her music available in a number of stores overseas much to the delight of her growing european fan base.
The prestigious San Diego Music Awards nominated Renata Youngblood 'Best Acoustic Act 2006.' , and The LA Music Awards nominated Renata 'Female Singer-Songwriter of the Year 2006'

Side Effects Of Owning Skin ? Audacious !
author: Gary KayThis album is sheer delight. I can't speak highly enough of it. I saw the album's title while browsing at CD Baby, and I thought, what on earth is this about ? I had to give it a listen, and I'm glad I did. I fell in love with Ms Youngblood's voice in an instant, then her songs, the arrangements, and the beautifully relaxed atmosphere of the album. I've been around long enough to know that music doesn't come any better than this. Renata's music, on the surface, is like many other musics, only it is highly original, and is laced with that certain unquantifiable element that makes it uniquely beautiful, and memorable. I must download this, I simply must.
Pleasant surprise
author: MattSaw Ms. Youngblood on a local access station here in Charlotte NC, I got excited and figured she was local but was wrong. I checked out her website and purchased both CD's, what a pleasant surprise. I'd say her sound is Jack Johnson meets Sarah McLaughlin....very refreshing sound I cannot believe she's not caught on as mainstream yet (although top 40 radio is a mixed blessing as they tend to over play music).
Love the music!

Understated Brilliance
author: David SydneyI found Miss Youngblood's music from a friend who said I might like it. Since then I have purchased both this album and her short disc released last year and can not seem to stop playing them both. The instrumentation is great but it's the lyrics that intrigue me the most. With a voice so rich and such wisdom in simple words, I can see why this artists' popularity is really on the rise.
