The Story of reimer I setzer started 11.11.1999. Sabine Reimer and Markus Setzer gave their first common concert only with singing and bass guitar for family, friends and acquaintance in the Foolsgarden in Hamburg, Germany. A suitable place for an unusual idea and exactly the correct framework, in order to try this daring instrumentation out. "We stood on the stage completely stripped. Thus we felt anyhow. No net, no double bottom. Only a voice and a bass guitar. We stood right at the beginning and had no idea about the force and depth of this project.
Fascinated by the possibilities, which are offered to a voice'n'bassguitar duo, after Gigs in clubs and cultural centers, a tour through Germany and the fist CD "The First Twinkle (Red-Music) followed at the beginning of 2000. The recordings for this CD were deeply influenced by the birth of their common daughter Jule.
Shortly after the second CD "Between The Worlds" followed which appeared on the renowned jazz label Lipstick (Germany). The critics were thrilled by the atmosphere which Sabine and Markus conjured on the CD. However there were also people who reacted slightly irritated. " Our music polarizes because we are not mainstream and it is hard to assign us to a certain music style. The good thing is that we do not have to accept compromises and above everything do not want to. reimer I setzer are Sabine and Markus. No filters no catalyst. "We have our own style and it is well like that."
Their audience appreciates that. They are celebrated enthusiastically at their concerts. Also the press seems to get acustomed to the duo: colourful, mutable sound, perfection, captivating expressiveness and the personal carefully arranged interpretations of their extensive repertoire were the outstanding features of the sympathtic duo. (Landeszeitung).... Virtuous bassguitarist with flawless technique...Sabine Reimer cultivated the scat ...(Kieler Nachrichten)...amazing depth of sound...(szene hamburg)....CD of the month (Gitarre exclusiv)....a very own world of sound (Gitarre&Bass). Also in the USA the press became attentive to the innovative duo and reacted evenly enthusiastic to the new sound: ...an impressive collaboration of duet pieces for voice and bassguitar. ... an accomplished vocalist in her own field and the artistically proficient bass playing... (Bassically.net) ... the album is extremly personal...ultimate heartfelt ... (talkbass).
The Duo now presents their third album "The Inner Light". This time on their own label JBM-Records. "The Inner Light" has more drive without loosing depth. The interplay between Sabine and Markus got more intensive and they moved still closer together. The sound displays a high degree of transparency and the directness and clearness of the arrangements shape the very own style of reimer I setzer.
"Music for us is a very special way to live and express love and of course it is also a way of communication. It pulsates, is full of harmony , has rough edges, floats flies and is amply filled with life."
And in such a way their compositions develop usually in the middle of everyday life.
They come without warning while doing the dishes or traveling, are inspired by their daughter Jule and her stories, surprise during rehearsal or sometimes exist for years as an idea on a tape.
"Sometimes a melody acompanies me for quite a while before it gets ready to become a proper song". Sabine talks about a song that developed while being on a spiritual journey in indonesia."To explain composing is impossible. Suddenly there is a melody given from where ever. If I knew where music was coming from I would go right there."

Amazing - great bass chops and beatiful singing.
author: Wes WatsonWhat a wonderful cd! Vocal jazz and bass may not go together, at least that's what I thought until I heard this wonderful cd! The bass guitar weaves some wonderful melodies, as well as some excellent rythyms, and Sabine's voice combines with it very musically to make some wonderful jazz! A must buy for the jazz, vocal or bass enthusiast! Wonderful music!
