notes
Not long ago, I felt embarrased to tell anyone I was a musician (contrary to my state mind at the release of my first cd). When people became aware that they were speaking to a musician when they talked to me, they had a tendency to ask about things like record labels, tours, royalties, studios, trips overseas, etc. I got tired of saying that this is not what my music entailed. I hated feeling that I had to defend my love of music and basically justify why I was not on some Top 20 countdown somewhere. The expectation was that if I was a musician, I should be a star. Unfortunately for me, I caved in to this logic and began to avoid conversations about what I enjoyed doing because I was not the star everyone thought I should be. What I did not realize was that by doing this, I was in denial of who I really was. For that, I became even more embarrased.
Now, I just play whether there is a record deal or not; a promotor waiting to sign me up or just a curious on-looker; a grand stage or a sand lot. I just can not die with my music still in me. Whatever is in it for me will be. If nothing else, I know that music gives me a feeling of enjoyment unmatched by anything else and it is to my emotional and spiritual benefit to engage in it.
For inspiring this music, I would like to thank God, also known as Allah, Jehovah, Yahweh, Nature, Krisha, Abba and the Creator - same kat, different names.
I would also like to thank Snarky Puppy, David Pigue, Sheree Dunn, Timothy Hayes and John Immel.
