notes
The Nobby Reed Project released it's sixth CD-"Moonlight Drivin" on Oct
18,2004.
The cd is a milestone for Reed and his premier Blues Trio as it was
produced, recorded and mixed by Nobby at NRP's beneath The Living Room Studio
on his new AKAI 24 track DPS studio gear.
The CD was once again mastered by Andre' Maquera at West Street Digital
in Fairfield,Vt. giving the disc a very professional unified tonality, warm
with crisp but not overbearing top end.
The Project dishes out a generous 15 new songs, opening with the title
track, a bouncy, rockin' tour de force.
For those who have followed NRP since the beginning there's a noticeable
maturity and refinement to Nobby's guitar tone thanks to a new vermont made
"Zeeta-by Maven Peal" amplifier. There's a tightness and focus very evident
to fellow musicians which really enhances the albums platform.
"Only You" chugs away with super 8th and 16th note hi-hat work from
drummer, percussionist Eric Belrose.
The influence of Carlos Santana is heard and felt on "Morning Glory".
This track also marks the first recorded appearance of Nobby's new top of
the line Fender Acoustic guitar as well.
Nobby returns to an old theme with a glorious thunderstorm at the head
of "I Wish You Peace" a moody ballad which is one of the CD's zeniths!
Tim Comings elderly Fender Precision Bass and SWR amp are sonically near
perfection on "Common Ground".
Tim's love and mastery of the blues genre make this track COOK-another
of the discs strongest tracks.
For the tech minded listener, Nobby has used a tasty palette of ambient
effects to subtly color the vocal landscape; carefully used and not abused
making the vocals fresh and interesting yet uncluttered.
Other hot tracks include "Blues Is A Lady", a chicago style piece with
Tim on a tasty, laid back harmonica as well as bass."Powerful Thing" a total
rave-up. "JB" a strong tribute to the fabulous Jeff Beck, and a personal
favorite of mine."Follow Your Heart" mixed very tightly so the Project comes
off as the precision unit it truly is.
Closing out "Moonlight Drivin" is a 10 minute epic"Worried Man". This
track is sure to be a new "live" favorite of NRP fans.
The only thing missing from this package at press time are liner notes
to go with the beautiful cover photograhy by Nobby's daughter Angela and
Nobby himself.
A truly worthy addition to the Nobby Reed Project canon of albums.

Top-notch exposition of impassioned blues.
author: Robert (Wales)The NRP are a tight-knit trio that generate high calibre material. Nobby's evocative vocals are delightful, this coupled with his guitar virtuosity combine to provide a feast of soulful, relaxing music. Moonlight Drivin' is another quality CD that showcases Nobby's considerable talent. How the NRP have not received greater recognition globally is a mystery to me.

I have known Nobby Reed for more than 20 years and have watched this talented musician evolve to what he is today. I recently purchased Moonlight Drivin' and see Nobby delve into his music in such greater depth than ever before. The two songs that stick out the most are Learn To Love and Follow Your Heart. In Learn To Love I could not believe the wild slide and harmony guitar playing in the background. In addition, there are Nobby's influences displayed: Carlos Santana, Dickey Betts, Jeff Beck and Roy Buchanan to name a few. Ever since I first met him, he has played and sang his heart out. I encourage anyone to purchase cd or any of his others, his performance is honest and backed solidly by Eric Belrose on Drums and Tim Comings on bass.
another great nobby reed cd!
author: jcatronif you've never heard nobby, check out the cut 'dig deeper' and you'll become a nobby reed fanatic! this entire cd is very solid and allows the NRP a chance to strut their stuff. one of the great 'unknown' guitarists, Vermont's best kept secret-get in on it!!

It always amazes me how much great music is out there that you never hear about because the group doesn't have the look or the industry feel that there isn't an audience for the music. Well down in Swanston, Vermont there is a great three piece blues band by the name of the Nobby Reed Project who has just released their sixth independent CD entitled Moonlight Drivin'. If you are a fan of the blues and the great guitar players of the 60's and 70's, then don't miss out on this one. These guys are bad and really enjoy playing which is obvious once the opening track "Moonlight Drivin' begins to heat up the speakers. Not only are these guys great musicians but Nobby is not a bad singer, very sincere and passionate about his craft, which is really showcased on "Only You". Homages to great guitar players are incorporated on this release with much respect like the Santana-ish "Morning Glory" and the Jeff Beck salute called "JB". Listening to this CD I really got the impression that these guys must be on fire when they put on a live show because the energy between them is unquestionable. I would pay anything to hear these guys play the wonderful ballad "I Wish You Peace" and that ten minute low down version of "Worried Man" where Nobby really digs deep inside of his soul to deliver gritty blues vocals. Exciting and earthy in its' grittiest-soul-shaki-electric-blues form, Moonlight Drivin' will make a blues believer out of you, as it has done to me. All Hail Nobby Reed Project.
