(About MP3 downloads at CD Baby)

Hot country swing from the original Red Willow Band from South Dakota. The band re-united for SD Public Broadcasting in September of 2006, and the concert was captured for CD and DVD release by MoonHouse Records. Original tunes and a few tasty covers.

notes

The Red Willow Band existed in South Dakota from 1974 to 1982. Their business card read "Red Willow Band.....the best in country swing". Two albums and several singles were recorded and released, with one single "I Wish I Had Your Arms Around Me" reaching #97 on the Billboard Hot Country 100 charts for a whopping 7 days. The band made numerous TV specials for South Dakota Public Television, hosted the successful NEMO series of outdoor festivals, and toured nonstop in the upper U.S. from Washington State to New York City.

The Red Willow Band has had several wildly successful reunion concerts, the most recent of which was recorded for this CD – Red Willow Band – Reunion! The CD features live performances of the the band’s most popular original tunes and a couple tasty covers like “Stage Fright”, “Orange Blossom Special” and Steve Young’s “Long Way To Hollywood”. Check it out, but have your dancin’ shoes close by……

Of special note...when Red Willow disbanded in 1984, fiddler Kenny Putnam and pianist Chris Gage joined up with Roy Clark, each appearing on the Grand Ole Opry, Hee Haw, and the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

  • Very down home music, just as it should be
author: John Book, Music For America

The Red Willow Band were a country/swing band from South Dakota who played between 1974 and 1982. They were a group that had a bit of a cult following in their day, and when they split up, their fans kept listening to their classic albums. Some had all but given up on a chance for them to come back. It had taken over 20 years for them to do it, but the Reunion! album (Moonhouse) brings them into the 21st century, showing that they have not lost their step even as many years have passed. If you're unsure as to what country/swing is, it is a throw back to old country, but also has a big of a swagger that makes some songs worthy enough of active dancing at the hoedown. When you hear them play together on stage, there's a chemistry that can't be denied, and you wish this performance could have went on for another hour or two. It's very down home, just as it should be.
