Red Sails is Tom Tierney, Patrick Southern and Nate Smith. The trio was initially formed as a backing band for Tom Tierney's solo folk/punk project - playing the folk tunes in a new, noisier format. The band quickly developed into an entity of its own and is not by any stretch a backing band. Red Sails attempts to bring all of our collective musical leanings together, distilled into a wilder version of Tierney's songwriting, which the Boston Globe calls "a mix of punk rock, pretty melodies, atypical composition, and gravelly voiced storytelling."
