MORRISSEY COLLABORATOR AND GUITARIST ALAIN WHYTE COMPLETES FULL-LENGTH RELEASE PRECEDED BY THIS LIMITED EDITION EP "L.A. CRASHLANDING" FROM NEW PROJECT RED LIGHTNING
Morrissey co-writer, collaborator and guitarist Alain Whyte has completed a debut full-length release by his new project Red Lightning. (http://www.redlightningmusic.com).
Based in London, UK and Los Angeles, USA, Red Lightning is a power trio featuring Alain Whyte (Guitar), John DiMambro (Bass), and Milo Todesco (Drums). Having kept their live performances to a minumum while focusing on their forthcoming release, Red Lightning have just completed a successful tour across 5 states.
"Red Lightning came about simply because I wanted to write and record my own songs in a more stripped down fashion as a three piece", said Alain Whyte, guitarist and songwriter of Red Lightning. "Working with someone as talented as Morrissey for 15 years is something I wouldn't trade for the world. Having co-written albums from Your Arsenal to Morrissey's upcoming release "Ringleader Of The Tormentors" has been a rewarding experience that cannot be put into words. While I am not giving that up, I am very focused on Red Lightning and am trying to create something new from Scratch".
This Limited Edition EP and the full length Album to follow is produced by Dave Newton (Mighty Lemon Drops, The Blood Arm, & The Blue Aeroplanes) and is the latest recorded music from Alain Whyte outside of Morrissey.
The band draws it's musical inspiration from bands such as Echo & The Bunnymen,U2, The Clash, The Cult, The Smiths and, of course Morrissey.

must have
Great Listen!
author: LoadOf27An amazing debut for Red Lightning! If you're a fan of Alain's work with Morrissey, you must definitely get this album. Some great melodious tracks with the standout being the opener, "Something out of Nothing". I'm itching to hear more songs plus see them live!
Great Debut Album
author: frankieExcellent debut album! RL definetly have a very catchy, easily likeable sound and these guys are all very talented musicians who make good use of their skills. I hope the next album will have more of a rockabilly flair to it, as this album was more straight up pop. Looking forward to more great stuff from Red Lightning
close to perfect
author: katjaHaving already been impressed by Alain Whyte's guitar style and the music he wrote for Morrissey, I was glad to finally find an album of one of his other bands. Since I just knew about Alain Whyte through his collaboration with Morrissey and had never heard about the other Red Lightning-members, I was positively surprised. The EP contains some great melodic but yet powerful rock songs, amazing guitars and a brilliant rhythm section. If possible, I would have given the CD 4.5 stars - the missing 0.5 star for the fact that those great songs L.A. Chrash Landing, I miss you and Black dog day end "too" early - one wishes they would go on for much longer. Can't wait for the band to release their full length album! I am just afraid that it will be difficult to get in Germany and that Red Lightning will stay a well kept secret.
A nice departure from the Moz
author: jamessome good tracks on this album. Aside from the vocals (which i find very reminiscent of Ian McCulloch, and), and tracks 2 and 8, i find the EP sounds surprisingly American. ie; Welcome To Ashley, and Waxwings. good EP

I have been a long time Alain Whyte fan through his collaborations with Morrisse
author: Erick DarrowThis is an e.p. I will loan or reccomend to many people. It is a great arrangement of songs that get to the soul of what Alaine is about. I thank him for recording it.!! good day all!
really good - but not perfect!
author: Monikait´s a good mixture of music-styles. i really had some good loughs about some rhymes. the bonus material is fun (photo gallery!!) a must-have in your cd collection!
Fantastic and fun for all ages
author: VTThis is an album that is definitely worth buying more than one copy. Alain's guitars blend in very well with John's strong bass and Milo's energetic drums to produce a powerful and solid sound. The great chemistry that the band has clearly shows through on each song. And Alain has a lovely voice that is very pleasant to listen to and can even make your heart melt as evident in the beautiful acoustic number which is the perfect ending to an overall brilliant album.
Brilliant
author: ShihoBrilliant! Alain's loving voice, John's heavy bass, Milo's tight drums, good melody, solid rhythm, everything on that are brilliant. I esp love a song called "Sign Up", which is punkish. This EP is worth listing.
Truly Great
author: Sonya-JayneI've really enjoyed listening to this album. The guitars are amazing, very Morrissey which is hardly surprising. Will look forward to hearing more from Red Lightening. Altough I'm having trouble being able to buy anything by them in record shops in Scotland. No one has heard of them here yet. I hope that will soon be remedied.
Steps from the shadow of...
author: Rob LeeAlthough this is only an e.p. it was well worth a purchase and I would have given 4.5 stars if I could have. Some tracks do bear the mark of a harder edged Moz but others recall The Jam (sign up), whilst the accoustic tracks highlight Alain's voice in Ian McCulloch mode (Echo and the Bunnymen. Looking forward to the lp. Not sure where it fits in with the currently popular U.K. bands, but don't care either! Alain, as Whytegrrl says 'matters'
Solid, melodic debut EP from Alain Whyte's new project, Red Lightning
author: Jade BlackmoreWith his new band, Red Lightning, slated to play South by Southwest this year, Morrissey guitarist/collaborator Alain Whyte, along with bassist John DiMambro and drummer Milo Tedesco, forge a straightforward classic rock sound. On their eight song debut EP, the trio weaves melodic, accessible tunes akin to the tastier AOR of the 70s and early 80s. I can’t sub-categorize Red Lightning’s sound with any trendy catchphrase. Whyte has the sort of direct voice that’s perfectly suited for classic rock. L.A. Crash Landing is still going through my head (The lights are on/but nobody’s home, Whyte sings. Yep,that’s L.A. in a nutshell.) Sign Up, an anti-war song (no album released in 2006 is complete without one), is effective without being didactic. The EP ends with a pretty acoustic guitar melody of Were You Ever In My Life? The band plans to release a full length CD later this year.
Classic rockNRoll!
author: AsiramThe fellas of Red Lightning do an exceptional job writing the music, and Alain has a great classic rock voice--at times he sounds like Roger Daltrey even! I highly encourage another L.P. from these guys--they should have a major deal as far as I'm concerned. This record is a thousand times better than the garbage currently passsing for "rock" music on the radio...
Amazing !!
author: * G *Awsome album !! the music is great !! Alain's voice sounds wonderful !! A must have for any Morrissey/Whyte fan !! Cant wait for a live album !!
Absolute brilliance, once you hear these songs you will be addicted to the melod
author: WhyteGrrrlThere is only one problem with this CD, it makes the listener crave more than just the 8 tracks that are available on the EP! That being said, each song is full of Alain Whyte's stunning singing and melodic songs. They will make you smile as well as cry, and all the while penetrate not only your heart but your soul. You won't be able to keep from singing along with Alain Whyte and move your body to the beat of Milo Todesco's drumming, as well as enjoy the heavy baseline played by John DiMambro. This CD is a must have!
