notes
Soul Connection, the new release by Ray Edge on Solar Records is a showcase of original songs, with great vocals and stellar musicianship from some of Canada's finest. This is an infectious array of sing-able, dance-able music with classic rhythm and blues, jazz and latin influences, along with soulful ballads.
Ray's background as vocalist for several prominent R&B bands, including Dollars and Dealer's Choice in the late 70s, and Ray Edge & The Sensations in the 80s made him a popular fixture on the Toronto scene.
In 1984 he answered a second calling by relocating to England to undertake extensive training in homeopathic medicine while still performing at clubs and festivals in the UK. He qualified as a homeopathic doctor in 1990 and returned once again to Canada in 1994 to found one of Canada's original homeopathic medical schools, the Toronto School of Homeopathic Medicine.
This CD was recorded at Toronto's Iridescent Music and mixed and mastered at Metal Works Studios in Mississauga. Soul Connection features Amoy and Ciceal Levy and Steve Grisbrook on background vocals, Gary Kendall, Pat Carey and Michael Fonfara from the Downchild Blues Band as well as Fathead's Teddy Leonard and Jim Casson from The Stickmen. Howie Moore, William Carn and Larry Bodner round out the horn section, while Toronto R&B veterans John Dickie, John Mays and Johnny Wright team up for background vocals on Real Good Thing.
Ray Edge is back making music that satisfies body and soul.

Can't get enough of this CD
author: Robin S.From the first time I listened to Ray Edge's Soul Connection CD I was hooked. Love the story of Internet Date and the feelings that come through in Soul Connection. There's not a bad song on the whole CD - very rare indeed.
Unusual CD - Great!
author: Mary S.I can't remember the last time there were so many great songs on one CD. It has it all, easy listening, fun and soulful tunes. The more I play it, the more I want to play it. It Started With the Blues, says it all.
Great CD - Good Tunes with Good Flow.
author: Marion DavidsonWell worth the price - takes me back to the R&B sound I really like.
Great stuff!
author: Greg R.It's got everything - smooth & mellow to hot & funky. Can't get the songs out of my cd player...or my head. As well rounded and complete blues cd as I've heard in a long time. Do not leave this album out of your collection.
Very good CD - almost polished, it shines!

"...a fine, polished singer, reminding me of a lighter David Clayton-Thomas"
author: Maple Blues MagazineThe songs are classic R&B and soul and are very good indeed. You'll see some familiar names coming up but they all contribute to a mighty fine package. The basic band has Gary Kendall on bass, Jim Casson on drums, Teddy Leonard on guitars, Michael Fonfara on keys with Pat Carey on saxes, Howie Moore on trumpet, William Carn on trombone. The vital ingedient for this kind of music is often the background vocals and six of the songs feature and I do mean feature Amoy Levy and Ciceal Levy. The title song, "Heaven In Your Eyes" and "Look For The Love Inside" finds them in full flight behind Edge's vocal. The opener, "Time Enough For Love", is classic R&B. The second track, "Real Good Thing" has John Dickie, John Mays and Johnny Wright on backing vocals. Edge is a fine, polished singer, reminding me of a lighter David Clayton-Thomas. "Internet Date" is the closest to bar blues here with a pretty fine band, but his voice lacks a little grit. Its followed by "Mess Around On You", a rather nice jump blues. Edge does best though on the four soul songs that conclude the album. "Save Our Soul", "Heaven In Your Eyes", "Look For The Love Inside" and "Thank You Girl".
