Hailed as a musical mastermind by LA Yoga Magazine, Rara Avis is known for weaving intricate tapestries of fluent world rhythms, melodies, and harmonies, into genre-defying music that ignites the heart and begs the body to explode into dance. Whether playing improvised world fusion music with the Shaman’s Dream World Groove Ensemble or composing original electronic music with evocative guitar and vocals, Rara’s sound is an ever-evolving palette of vibrational color full of soulful surprises from across the globe.
Rara’s current artistic mission is to deliver honest music - radiated from the heart, intuited by the mind, and facilitated by the body - fusing various styles from around the world to create genre defying music that has the power to move, relax, open, and heal.
His training came initially from a blues, jazz, classical, and psychedelic rock back ground – but has since widened into ethnic, devotional, and electronic music. The modern technological toolkit being what it is, Rara is able to blend all these different forms together into a constantly evolving palette of vibrational color.
He has a particular interest in the various cultures around the world that use music as a tool for healing. Rara’s fascination with this aspect of music began with an apprenticeship in a cancer therapy program that used sound to activate the innate healing potential within the body. This, coupled with a growing understanding of electronic music production, has infused Rara’s music with a medicinal quality that provides the listener solace from their every day stresses, while enticing them with hip concoctions of electro infused rhythms, melodies, harmonies and atmospheres.
Along with the current productions he has going with with Amani for White Swan Records and Sounds True, Rara also gives healing performances of original music coupled with live improvisation on guitar and vocals ... as well as playing improvised world fusion music with Craig Kohland and the Shaman’s Dream World Groove Ensemble at Micheline Berry’s Zen Dancing ritual concerts. Rara has remixed for record labels like Six Degrees, Ajna, White Swan, and Triloka ... and has an upcoming full length release entitled “Africa Dream” co-written with Shaman’s Dream founder Craig Kohland - available through Sounds True. This is the follow up album to Kerala Dream, which has been listed as one of the top Yoga albums of 2005.
