notes
*Hello. My name is Robbie Doyen and my band is called Robbie and the Robots. Former band names include Cool Little Guy, Pavlov’s Dogs, Robaho Spuds, Sack Check and Too Small Shoes. I have a lot of band member turnover so I named my new band Robbie and the Robots because I didn’t want to change the name of my band anymore. Some people would say I call my band Robbie and the Robots because I am a conceited, arrogant prick. There are many theories in this world. *My songs are tragic comedies or “Dramadies” if you will. The music as a whole is hard to define not because it is exceedingly unique, but because it skips throughout so many genres. There’s the very Chuck Berryesque “Naked”, mixed right in there with a pop-punk styled “I’m the One”, right next to the Dylan styled “Waltz in G Major”. And who could ever forget my psychobilly anthem “Drug Free Sabbath”. That song will get stuck in your head like an obsessive compulsive ritual. *However, the words to the songs are extremely unique. "She's not very strong, but her mouth is a muscle." "Everything is going great, so clap your hands and masturbate." "Drugs are better than people." "I don't smoke crack on the day of the lord."... the list goes on and on. The words will make you say, "Is something wrong with him?" "Is he serious?" "Did he experience a lot of head trauma in his formative years?" The answers: Yes, maybe, and yes. *I really wouldn’t consider myself a very good musician. I’ve been told that you’re only as good as the worst member of your band, so I try to make sure that is me. My Drummer’s name is Luke Pierce. He’s played in some awesome bands like The Jocks, and Darling Sinister. He also works on movies. The coolest sounding thing he’s done so far was when he worked as the Transportation Coordinator on the most recent Coen Brothers movie. He got to hob knob with the stars, drive a company car, and even managed to avoid getting the hell beat out of him once. Ask him about that. My bass player is a real cool cat called Sterling Finlay, but he also answers to Hoot Gibson. He stays busy playing bass for many different bands and working at his Dad’s bar, The Cheatham Street Warehouse. He’s friends with some famous people like Todd Snider and gets lots of stylin’ duds these days from his new job managing a thrift store. As far as guitar players, I have a rotating list of about three or four different guys who play according to availability. So far Robbie and the Robots has had nine different guitar players. *I've played with some pretty cool people like Tim Reynolds of the Dave Matthews Band, Ray Wiley Hubbard, and Scott Biram. In 2004 Robbie and the Robots was voted number 1 Alternative Band in Austin in the Edge Magazine. In 2005 we got number 2. My song “Drug Free Sabbath” won an honor award in the “Great American Song Contest”. I play lots of shows by myself with just an acoustic guitar and a homemade campfire setup. I also bring my campfire to the open mic that I host every Monday night at Lucy’s on the Square in San Marcos. I’m putting together the first ever San Marcos Compilation album. Proceeds from the album will be donated to help fight the disease “Fibromyalgia”. I have two Bachelor of Arts degrees from Texas State University—one in Psychology, and one in English. I’ve also spent some time as a freelance sportswriter, doing stories for my local paper and for the San Antonio Spurs. I once spent time hosting a show on 105.9 KIND Radio called the “Sesky Brisket Juice Show”. I also once broke out my front teeth in the mosh pit during one of my shows, then had a benefit concert at that bar to raise money to fix my teeth.

Once the music hits your ears you'll never want to grow up!
author: The San Marcos SceneTodaysterday is a great album for those who love genuinely creative and incredibly witty rock and roll music. Robbie and the Robots provide extensive listening pleasure to their fans with their body moving tunes and the wit of Songwriter Robbie Doyen. What's great about this CD is how personal it sounds. Honest passion and strong vocals fill your ears. "Small Town Psycho Crazy Girlfriend Blues" is sure to become a rock and roll anthem, with a finger-snapping drum beat and soul-rocking guitar riffs. One of the best songs on the CD to lose control and dance to is "Naked". Once the music hits your ears you'll never want to grow up! "Symbiosis", a purposeful sing along, is a crowd favorite and fun to dance to at Robots' shows. Robbie and the Robots' "Todaysterday" is sure to make you twist, shout, and just get on down!
