Rasa is a sanskrit term that means the ultimate creation that a musician strives for, the ability to create through their art form a venue to touch the inner soul. To get to the root of your emotions, to blend completely through this auditory medium, is to share emotion with the audience. All that you will learn about music strives for this… Final destination, where musical notes transcend tonal boundaries and touch centers within the inner-soul. Navarasa directly refers to the nine emotions expressed from and through music. These nine emotions are the soul of music.

Rasa 9 began as an idea between two musicians. The production team of Swedish-born Christian Lundberg (guitar), and Chicago native Joe Tamel (bass) honed their chops within the Los Angeles music scene through their individual band projects and then somehow stumbled upon a sound that actually truly fed their desires in music. After recording a volume of instrumental tracks and auditioning multiple singers that just did not mesh with the overall vision of the sound, fate stepped in as vocalist Stefan Hajek arrived on the west coast from the complete opposite end of the country. A child of the Southeast band scene himself, Stefan stepped in with the voice and completed the sound that exemplified the desired result that Rasa 9 was longing to become. The final piece of the band came into play when veteran drummer Donny Gruendler came across the rough tracks and jumped on board.

Though the group was complete and had a set of original music together very quickly, it was decided that the band would first record a volume of music to really discover its sound and develop its songs. Rasa 9 proceeded to hole up in their own private studio, and several months later, The Breeding Ground was born, a full-length compilation that pays no attention to the limits of labeling.

In the months that followed, during the mixing stages, before the band even played their first note together onstage, several songs that the band recorded were licensed for use in feature film or television productions, proving that the emotion was contagious, and as the band posted songs online, it soon became clear that the music was speaking to many.

Now, as a powerful, compelling live show, and a songwriting force, Rasa 9 stands posed to fulfill the original intention, which is to ultimately create and share this strength in conviction in sound with an ever-expanding audience. Welcome to the mission. Welcome to the vision. Welcome to Rasa 9.
