notes

Anthony Ranieri is a composer and pianist whose work in the creative arts extends back to the mid 1970s. After graduating from Lake Forest College in 1974 with a BA in music, he continued his studies at the Chicago Conservatory and American Conservatory. He has also done work in music at Indiana University, Interlochen, and Northwestern University. He has studied composition with Homer Keller, Louis Laporta and Bright Sheng. An intense interest in the musical expression of other cultures has led him to study the Shakuhachi and the sitar as well as to participate in all the different facets of the Gamelan orchestra.
Beginning piano studies at age five he started composing at age seven and performed his own work in recital at age eleven. He began teaching piano at age sixteen and has taught theory, composition and voice.
His first album of original music for multi- track piano, electronics and voice, Gate (1985) was well received. He has subsequently released two CDs featuring both his own work and that of the standard repertoire. He is currently finishing his third CD, and plans to release it in the summer of 2005.
Mr. Ranieri's compositions cover the gamut from full length opera to simple piano pieces for children.
