notes
Rosanne Raneri is an award-winning singer-songwriter who arrests audiences' musical and emotional sensibilities with her provocative, surprising and unique songwriting, her disarming voice and her riveting and gutsy performances. She is featured in the book SOLO: Women Singer-Songwriters In Their Own Words (Dell Publishing), a collection of interviews and photos of twenty of today's premier women singer-songwriters such as Sarah McLachlan, Jewel, Joan Osborne, Sheryl Crow, Shawn Colvin, Ani DiFranco and Suzanne Vega.
Rosanne was always destined to perform; instead of attending her last year of high school, she interned at the Empire State Institute for the Performing Arts before graduating from SUNY Geneseo with awards in theater. Singing and songwriting are her passion and she went on to release two independent albums on her own label, Memory Red Records. "Frantic and Weightless," released in 1996, was highly praised by several music critics and named one of the top five album releases of 1996 by Greg Haymes of the Times Union. "Parhelion," released in 2000, was named Best Local Release for 2000 by Metroland Magazine ("Parhelion is one of the finest albums ever recorded in this area"). Greg Haymes says of Parhelion, "Raneri serves up the complete package: stunning songs, a jaw-droppingly gorgeous voice and an almost palpable charisma...folk-pop gems that sparkle like the sun on fresh winter snow."
Rosanne was the debut artist for the award-winning Time-Warner music series, "Sounding Board," and has performed at Caffe Lena, The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall, The Egg, the Bitter End, THe Village Underground and Saratoga Music Hall. She has opened for Rickie Lee Jones, Rosanne Cash, Ani DiFranco, Maura O'Connell and Cheryl Wheeler, and has shared the stage with Garnet Rogers, Tom Paxton, and Lucy Kaplansky.
