notes
"In a world saturated with slick, overproduced albums by bands who willingly sacrifice personality for commercial success...this duo offers unabashedly original songs with appealingly raw, unselfconscious execution...Bands like this hook audiences with the power to provide that rare feeling that comes over you when you experience something truly unique... I do think they are musical souls who are lucky to have found each other."
--Adrienne van der Valk, Eugene Weekly, 2006
Drawing on the "coordinated quirkiness" of Ramon and Jessica's unique style, Handyman's Honeymoon is an album that will make you laugh and cry at the same time. What seem like touching folk songs on first listening turn out to be thoughtful, funny, honest and surprising takes on love,
"On the highway to heartache
there's a construction crew
paving new lanes for you..."
death,
"What did I find here?
What do I leave behind?
How did I spend my
fast and fleeting time?"
life's routine,
"All the crap of this world
rains down on my head
and when the weight is too much
I'll stack it all up
and start a fire instead"
and regret
"When you've finally figured out
that the best thing you've ever done
wasn't actually all that fun
then you'll know where I'm coming from."
On this recording, R&J's well-loved harmony vocals and acoustic guitar are filled out by violin, banjo, accordion, pump organ, toy piano, percussion, and, of course, the signature casio keyboard.

I love Jessica and Ramon, actually I ordered two in addition to the one I bought from them directly, so I can give them as gifts. They are totally fresh and unpredictable and wonderful. I love them!
I've replayed the first track all day.
author: Nick DouglasI heard Ramon and Jessica in a vintage shop and had to buy the album. So glad I did!
LOVABLE
author: Nemesis CabanielI love this CD is warm, awesome, sweet and unique!
David's little duo kicks Goliath's band's ass.
author: El CommandanteIf you know and love the distinction between quality and quantity, in terms of musical density, you will be delighted with this release. Undersized scoring with supersized smarts and pop sensibility make Ramon & Jessica's Handyman album startlingly good. By the way, good luck not getting at least one of these songs stuck in your head for a week.

Even though I generally don't enjoy folky pop, I really like Ramon and Jessica's Handyman's Honeymoon. The songs manage to be interesting, and occasionally even complex, while always maintaining a real honesty that is totally unpretentious. R & J's trademark use of unusual instruments like cheap electronic keyboards and odd percussion is aided by the polish and more professional production that comes with a higher-budget second album. I'm also a sucker for anyone who uses odd time signatures. :-)
I Love These Guys
author: AlanThere is an energy and a freshness in this music that is so much about two people really being playful with each other - exploring their thoughts and feelings and the sounds they can make together with no preconceived notion of what they needed to come up with. It's alive and disarming in its sweetness and lyricism, and the harmonies are very rich musically and often quite unexpected. I'm really moved by R&J's music.
entirely lovely
author: Jarrodthis is my new favorite CD of the week. lovely and touching and quirky and catchy. vaguely reminds me of sufjan stevens, but not really, and erin mckeown, but not really. feels familiar, but also very unique. ramon and jessica are my heroes!
Tender hooks
