notes

A native of Trinidad & Tobago, Samantha had already been writing poetry for ten years when she became a member of Tallahassee, Florida's Back Talk Poetry Troupe (www.blackonblackrhyme.com) in 2001 where she discovered her gift as a spoken word artist. It was not long before Samantha started sharing her talent with venues all over the South Eastern United States. Now that she has attained her B.A. in Creative Writing from FSU, Samantha is now enjoying her double career as a national spoken word sensation and a graduate student at UVA. Samantha is pursuing her MFA (Masters Degree) in Poetry.

Samantha is also currently promoting the release of her sophomore CD "Merror, Mirror: The Art of Self-Reflection." Speaking of reflection, this CD is indeed a reflection of Samantha's poetic as well as personal maturity. The musical production is sensitive to the work & professional, with Samantha's dynamic content to match. This project has a wide range of human emotion from heartbreak & guilt, to downright laughter. Just like in her debut CD "Uncircumcised: Raw & Uncut," Samantha's mystical imagination never fails to shine through the work.

Some say that Samantha is destined for greatness. Others argue that greatness is destined for Samantha. It goes without saying that supporting Samantha's artistry is not a liability, but an investment. You can learn more about Samantha Raheem at her website www.samanthaspeaks.com.

  • Uncircumsised (raw & uncut)

    Amazing!!!

  • Listen and you'll think, laugh, smile, and maybe even cry....

The content was clever, engrossing, and otherwise straight dopeness and the musical arrangements were powerfully appropriate, without being overpowering. Samantha sounds like a true poet with accompanying music as opposed to others poets I've heard who sound like they're trying to be rappers or singers. Buy an extra copy for a friend.

  • The literay content is outstanding.
    author: Bilaal Muhammad

Samantha's storying telling is exquisite. She captivates you with her Trinadadian accent and always give you something to thing about.

  • Samantha you are changing the game with this one.

Two words...COP IT!! It's very rare that an artist improves upon a masterpiece but that's what Samantha Raheem has done on her sophomore effort "Merror Mirror". There's nothing sophmoric here though...the Lady Griot, ever the consumate professional has upped the anty both production-wise and writing wise as she takes the listener on a guided tour through the mindscape of one of the most brilliant, creative, innovative, and inspirational voices in the poetry community today. I've listened to this CD at least 30 times and it gets better every single time. I can't even tell ya'll which poem I like the best because they are all bangin but her poems Crying over spilled Milk, Braille Business Cards, Why Won't Glenda Pray, and Signs are some of the standout pieces. Whether you buy it from this site or buy it on the road when you see her perform these masterpieces live, remember those two words...COP IT! It may be the best purchase you make all year (At least until the next SR joint drops).
