"MORE THAN READY":
Steve Copeland and Raging Sun, recently voted "Southern California's Best LIVE Blues Band" returns with their latest CD...MORE THAN READY. This is a CD that works on all levels and will have you hitting the repeat button over and over again. From the first bars of "Everybody Gets The Blues," Steve Copeland's blues stained voice is front and center on this gem as the band takes you on a tight Chicago style, mid-tempo groove. "Swing Time" lets the boys stretch out to showcase the strong instrumental side of the band, as River Blue digs deep for some explosive harp and Terry "the Count" Medeiros unleashes some brilliant guitar fretwork throughout this up tempo swing tune. Like any good blues band, versatility is key and "Don't Tell Me Why" mesh some riveting soulful vocals and instrumental interplay into an R&B based ballad about the heartache of a lost love. On "She's In The Groove" they kick it in for a fast paced Texas style boogie, a roller coaster ride that smokes from end to end. The band is as tight as a miser and full of great solos that incorporates River's downhome harp and Terry's razor sharp guitar.

A true "back porch" 40's style Mississippi Delta treatment is given to "Face To Face" with its stripped down, tin shack dobro acoustic solo and the lonesome wailing harp place you back in the shacks at Dockery Plantation. Overall the band shows its strength in both old and new styles of the blues but centers each song around the lyrical conviction of Steve Copeland, a rare quality that is found throughout the CD.

This band is known for their tight up tempo jump tunes and "Up Jumped The Money Man" pulls out all the stopped with a new twist to an age old situation. Great harmonies surround Steve's gutsy vocals on this barnburner plus the rippin' guitar and raw tone of a harp on fire delivers a fresh sound by these West Coast veterans. Once again, the production quality hits the bullseye on the bluzey ballads "Cuddle Up" and "Memphis Deluxe" with lush harmonies adding to the excellent mix that brings out all the instruments' subtle timbres and textures. Then the heavy groovin' instrumental "Raging Soul" lets loose with over the top guitar licks dripping with wah-wah effects and funk. Terry Medieros puts on a six-string clinic featuring irresistible melodies and rhythms for some smokin' blues riffs full of high-torque fretwork.

More traditional Chi-town sounds are delivered on "Gray Skies" and "Blues Stew," both songs stick to familiar themes that we all know, placing pain within ripped-up romance. Like finding a $20 bill in your pants pocket, these "finds" are worth a repeated listen about the down side of love and life. The former song grooves with a mid-tempo shuffles and the latter works an interesting key modulation into the arrangements for a refreshing musical change. Next up is a classic soulful ballad rendition of an original called "Drive My Blues Away". Dramatic and passionate vocals spotlight Steve Copeland's intense skills, bringing authenticity to this folk style song.

"Best Days' uses clever tongue-in-check lyrical observation to bring this post modern song to life, combing a bit of humor with instrumental bursts of gritty harp and scorching guitar solos. The air tight rhythm section hold everything together and nails it to the wall for a pulsating mid tempo groove. The percolating beat is the perfect backdrop for some enjoyable, yet unforced solos. On "Don't Look Back," the band plays a slow soul-edged ballad that is lyrically about the pain of a broken heart. Steve's vocals slowly build up with feeling and passion till he hits the mark with just the right "tear my heart out" emotional ending. Closing out the CD is one up tempo boogie that lets the band demonstrate their adrenaline filled, in-the-pocket rocket called, "Thank God I Got The Blues" featuring some muscular solos and solid blues hollerin'.

With a stellar mix of songs, styles and solos, this band continues to quickly move up the regional ranks to the national major leagues defining a contemporary West Coast sound that spans a wide spectrum of blues. From Delta to Chicago to the West Coast and from jump to boogies to ballads, "More Than Ready" is a CD that you'll want to share with your friends, but we warn you not to lend this CD out or you'll be hunting your friends down for its overdue return. Highly recommended for those that simple enjoy great music with a strong sonic sound quality, but be sure to tell your friends to buy their own copy of "More Than Ready" from CD Baby!
