NAME :
Rachid Kingi "Richard"
"O'menyama"
PROFESSION :
Lead-vocalist,author,composer,guitarist,performer,
arranger,percussionist,band-leader and producer.
HOMETOWN :
Maniema.
Grandson of "grand chief" Muzelela well known as
Kwa Muzelela( Muzelela City ) rive-droite, Kindu
"Maniema Province" Eastern Congo "ex-Zaire" Africa.
STYLE OF MUSIC :
Rumba,Soukous,and Dombolo,from Congo"anything goes"
meaning,with the influences of the West & Caribbean.
This is in-outside music,not only for the congoleses
and africans,but also for the Foreigners and Everyone.
It's Soukous Classic,No talk,No noises,Stand Up & Dance.
"It's a music of experience & maturity","Longomo-Beat"

EDUCATION :
Educated in Kisangani "ex Stanleyville" then worked at
the Ministry of Education for 2 years as a high school
teacher.
MUSIC BUSINESS :
Influenced in music since age 4 by his aunt-bi Sifa a
star of "biloumbou traditional dance"in Kisangani & Kivu
in'50s and '60s,then by his Uncle Ombiza Charles Laurent,
guitarist-vocalist and Star in gallotone & fiesta labels
back in '50s.
THE BANDS :
In '70s & '80s Rachid King bands based in eastern Congo
and numbered the likes of Remmy Ongala, Tshala Muana,
Yondo Sister,and others..and dominated the"Great-Lakes"
Region(Kivu,Kisangani,Katanga,Burundi,Rwanda,Tanzania,
Uganda and Kenya,.."Orch.Grand's Mike Jazz" in Bukavu.
Then,(1978-1983)Orch."Rachid King System"in Kinshasa.
THE FIRST ALBUM :
His first hit Lp was released in 1976 by Sonodisc-France
"Rachid King et les Imbattables" release Number SAF 50017
COMING TO AMERICA :
Rachid King arrived in New York City for the first time
in 1976,for a short visit.He returned back in NY in 1978
(this time) to record his music with american-musicians.
But,his "huge success" came in 1980 with the released of
his "hit Lp" "Rachid King in USA"known as "Sukuma Jembe"
release number M2340 "African Records Centre"distributor,
which "topped"All" the best"African records on the Chart"
Invited as "guest"by Don Rojas at"Caribbean Show"at WLIB
FM Radio in New York City,also at WHUR & WDCU in Wash.DC.
COMING BACK AGAIN TO AMERICA :
In 1984,he returned to Washington,D.C from(Congo-Kinshasa)
to found & lead a resident-afroband"The Sounds of Africa"
at Kilimanjaro International Club in NW Washington,D.C,
for"live-shows"1984-1990).Between 1976-1990 also,he was
invited "4 times" as special guest at "Voice of America"
by"Roger Guy Folly"(french),"Emmanuel Muganda"(swahili),
and by the american-musicologist"Leo Sarkisian"(english).

Owanga-Ciska,Ba-Peuples,Safalani-Diamant,Chance Ya Moninga,

"Grand's Mike Jazz band"(1968-1981)Awarded by 5 differents
District-commissioners,& Governors of the Province of Kivu.
-Best selling "albums" Moyeke,Sukuma Jembe,Kauli Ya Wazee,
Alanga Nzembo,Bolingo Ekeseni,Zaire..
-Best Group at "Lugogo Indoors"competition in Kampala,
presided by Mr Kato for the East-African Dance Competition
in 1974 in Kampala-Uganda.
-Best Melody"Meilleure orchestration"winner at FEMAC 83
(First Festival of Music of Central-African Countries)in
1983 in Kinshasa (after competitions at Palais du Peuple)
Jury presided by Mr Letamba Augustin(Africa Numero 1 )of
Radio-Tv Gabon,and deliberated by the Minister of Youths
Mr"Zanda-Bwana Kalemba"at the"Martyrs Stadium"in Kinshasa.
