notes
Rachel Cross is known for her high energy performances and positive vibes. She has performed at countless venues, house concerts, colleges, and festivals including The Kennedy Center, on board The Green Peace Rainbow Warrior, and at the Mid-Atlantic conference for The National Organization of Women.
She has been fortunate to share the stage with many luminaries including Shawn Colvin, The Neville Brothers, Los Lobos, and political comedian Al Franken. Rachel is a 4-time WAMMIE winner (Washington Area Music Awards), as well as a recipient of grants from the Rouse Company, Class Acts Arts, and Local 1000.
When not touring, Rachel is in high demand as a work shop leader, composer, and session vocalist. Her soulful vocals have been featured on many soundtracks including National Geographic's "Tiger Sharks", "Babylon", and "Self-portrait", and the theme for the ITV Network. Rachel is thrilled to announce the release of her second solo CD, "Dream Land" on Azalea City Recordings.
"What is edgy and soothing, aggressive and sweet, and bluesy and joyful? It's easy to combine these and other seeming contradictions if you are Rachel Cross. Other words that might come to mind when listening to her music are exuberant, celebratory, and diverse."
Evie Ratner, Sundilla Concerts
"Rachel focuses on lyrics that are meant to inspire listeners - inspire them to laugh or dance or to witness the breadth of her imagination."
Mike Joyce, The Washington Post
"Cross growls and purrs a bit like Ani DiFranco through bluesy numbers about subjects like love, respect and laundry."
Michael Hamersly, Miami Herald
"Acoustic guitars, bass, and percussion swirl around Cross's close-up, soulful vocals, creating an intriguing sonic landscape and enjoyable folk-pop synthesis."
