notes

Purnima, named after the Sanskrit term meaning "full moon", is an improvisational duo consisting of brothers Aneal and Naryan Padmanabha. Using the hammered dulcimer and acoustic guitar, Purnima effortlessly blends Western and Eastern influences to create folk music with a worldly flair. The duo has gained much popularity playing their unique improvisational sound at weekly performances at Indian restaurants and coffee houses. Purnima has been invited to perform multiple times on ARooting About@, Western New York's only showcase for folk music, hosted by Al Riese on 91.3 FM WBNY. The group has been nominated in 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 for Abest acoustic act@ by the WBNY Local Music Awards. In 2001, the duet toured the Western U.S. performing over 20 shows in 5 states, including performances in traditional showcases in Canada. Purnima has spent the past few years honing their improvisational sound at live performances. This ultimately led to the creation of AGarland of Sound@, a highly dynamic improvisational collection of songs that answer to the overwhelming demand from fans for a new album.
