notes
PUNCH DRUNK was formed in late 1991 in South Philadelphia, PA. PUNCH DRUNK abandoned "traditional" instruments and began working exclusively with electronic percussion, sequencers & computers. Their live shows consisted of laser lighting, fog machines, strobes, and an array of cheap electronic toys. The music, self-described as Hardtech Robocore, was loud, quirky, and aggressive.
UPLOAD THE PAST...DOWNLOAD THE FUTURE is a collection of remastered tracks recorded during 1992 - 1994. Some tracks have appeared on previous releases and others have never been released before.
"If Devo and Kraftwerk mated and made a family of lil' baby robots who grew up to be Slayer fans, you'd have something pretty close to Punch Drunk."
- Philadelphia Weekly
"Sheer sensory overload is the most accurate description of this technological audio/video assault."
- Philly Rock Guide
"Punch Drunk doesn't present ideas and wait for you to absorb them, they force-feed information whether you like it or not. This assault is not unintentional. It's a focused attempt to influence the audience by sheer speed and power of the performance."
- Bizzare Sex Chronicles

Unearthed gem takes industrial to a whole new level
author: the JaxDark and scary but simultaneously catchy. Mechanically perfect beats, infectious rhythms, and cold robotic sounds layered with sit-up-and-listen vocals. I feel like the robot enemies from the Matrix and Animatrix have captured me and are giving me a concert! "Hardtech robocore" indeed! They made this in 1992? More fun than a bucket of (nine inch) nails.
Truly defining the musical discription of "cyberpunk".........
author: Captin JanuaryImagine Devo having coffee with Mr.Buggle while being served by an pre-puberty Aphex Twin...I remember the first encounter I had with PD's songs. I had ordered their tape through GPC and found it amazing. A majority of the tracks on the disc are the same ones from the cassette, and material itself is still very impressive despite the fact most of it was done in circa '92 or '93. Most groups associated with anything close to cyberpunk (or industrial for that matter) have soured horribly. PD's work however still shines bright.
