notes

The Debut Album of Madeline Puckette. Using analog synthesizers, guitar, glitch drum beats and a playskool keyboard, Puckette creates upbeat indie-pop electronica. The outgoing music is complimented by profound lyrics with Madeline's seemingly innocent high voice.

If you like Mum, Goldfrapp, or the Postal Service you will like the sounds of Madeline Puckette.

  • Electro pop bliss

Great electro pop album. Solid songwriting hooks. Madeline has a sometimes delicate, sometimes seductive and edgy, but always emotive voice. Cool electro sounds, clicks, beeps and melodies keep the album vibrant throughout. Good mix of tracks... some very bubble gum, bouncy and upbeat with throw away lyrics and others more flowing and provocative. The production quality is tight. Love the depth and mix down of the sounds moving in and out of each track. A lot of time and emotion has clearly been put into creating each song and it shows. The catchiest song on the album is Nobody. One of my top 10 favorite songs from the last year... it's awesome... pure pop bliss... and there's much more here on the album. You'll have the melodies and lyrics from these songs stuck in your head for a long time to come. I highly recommend it.

upon opening the cd case is a graphic collage that when looked at reveals a thoughtfully displayed design. as with the contents of the cd, madeline has created a personal vision within a well placed design. there is passionate yet restrained singing over reoccouring themes that gracefully spin in and out throughout all the songs. this is tightly woven over a warm ambience of noise, glitches, bass lines, guitars, reversed sounds, casio synth leads, a unique array of electronic digital and analog drum kit sounds, and a good dash of dsp. her music unfolds in an organic way in relation to the lyrics. the rhythmic elements are paced effectively to build tension and drama to her pieces. the sound ambiences brings distinct imagery to her songs. the voice ranges from playful to emotionally haunting. occasionally the voice drops out and there are short interludes of instrumentals. from toy pianos, 8 bit video game music, beat tracks, to electronic ambiences. adding to the tapestry of sounds used over the course of the album. this is a very impressive debut by a mature artist that seems to have found a musical voice. there is not one track on this album that has not been meticulously cared for. i will be looking forward to her next release.

Anyone who complains that electronic music is cold and soul-less probably doesn't know much about music, and definitely hasn't heard Madeline Puckkette. I had the great fortune to see her perform live prior to hearing her music on CD. The setup consisted solely of a laptop computer, a microphone, and a girl in a green hooded sweatshirt. Just Madeline and her music. There was a freshness and immediacy about her performance which I really enjoyed. This honestly and lack of pretention comes across just as well on the CD. A happy marriage of Pop music sensibility with glitchy IDM / underground hip-hop beats. Roughneck style with silk lining.
