Bluegrass that conjures up images of Bill Monroe listening to some early Violent Femmes records before heading out the door with his mandolin. These boys insert bad attitude and a little humor into their particular blend of blugrass.

notes

Partial to Mabel's slant on bluegrass conjures up images of Bill Monroe listening to some early Violent Femmes records before heading out the door with his mandolin. Fixtures on the Birmingham music scene from 1995 to 1998, these boys inserted bad attitude and a little humor into their particular blend of blugrass, country, folk, and acoustic flavorings. Johnny Cash would be proud.

Partial to Mabel has officially disbanded, but its members can still be seen performing regularly (and often together) in the Birmingham area.

Partial to Mabel's only official release was If You Knew Mabel... The release not only was warmly greeted in its native Birmingham, but also caught the attention of the CMJ New Music Report. In its Triple AAA special issue, CMJ called Partial to Mabel "a wonderfully fun band whose debut is an all-out joyous experience."

The record, otensibly cut live in the studio, features a wide array of acoustic guitars, mandolins, pedal steels, whistles, noises, etc. The band's versatility is evidenced by the fact that all four members contributed songwriting and vocal chores on the record.
