By far the Best R & B Band to come from Chicago Pete the Co-Founder of the 80"s R&B sensation Big Twist and The Mellow Fellows Special is a guitar-playing hipster (who) treads the territory somewhere between Dr. John and Tom Waits.

notes

"Pete Special is an originator and professor of the fat, funkified, urban R&B sound that influences and now spills out from the best regional bar bands in America's great northern cities: Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, Kansas City Missouri. He continues the pedigree, which he established with the breakthrough band, Big Twist & the Mellow Fellows, and is one of the leaders in the new millennium blues movement. Along with Robert Cray, Johnny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Blues Traveler, Sy Klopps Band, Ron Sunshine, and Buddy Guy, Pete Special will be laying down the future of the classic American music in the years to come." -Dan Aykroyd (aka Elwood Blues and founder of The House of Blues Radio Hour)

Special is a guitar-playing hipster (who) treads the territory somewhere between Dr. John and Tom Waits. A little horny rock, a little soul, a little blues, all played well."- (Nation Records) -Blues Access Magazine, Fall 1999

"Those who like their blues rock funked-up and stirred with R&B/Soul should follow Pete Special down Mozart Street". -Ed Hogan, Illinois Entertainer April 1999

"Pete Special brings the legacy of Chicago's R&B scene into the millennium with a smoky. Late-night funk reminiscent of Dr. John and Tom Waits, but with his own original stamp that will leave you wanting more." -Steve and Johnnie, WGN Radio

"The horn driven eight piece band that Special now fronts is rock solid and a perfect accompaniment for his gruff, Dr. John style vocals and sophisticated, film noir-ish lyrics." -Jeff Johnson, Chicago Sun Times

  • Blues of the highest quality.

This just gets better with each listen. Pete’s effortless guitar playing and his somewhat rough, no frills style of singing combine with a fine horn section to make this an album you really have to have. Among the highlights is Pete’s heartfelt tribute to his time and adventures with Big Twist & the Mellow Fellows, “Those Were the Days”. Pete Special is undoubtedly one of Chicago’s most under-rated blues performers – which is pity, since both this album and Pete himself are worthy of far wider recognition in the blues world … and beyond.

  • What a loss for Chicago

This Cd could of been a great start to Mr Special's post Big Twist days. The Cd is by far the best music to come out of a Chicago based Artist in a long time. Every track is full of energy. Too band Mr Special could not keep it all together as the band is no longer together. Buy this fantastic Cd. The horn arrangements By John Bowes make the CD great
