Welcome to a new dose of alienation made soothing from the creators of Prozak for Lovers.

notes

The 21st Century is turning out to be such a disappointment! All those 20th Century promises of pleasant living and more leisure time laid to waste by multi-national corporations and terrorists. But never mind that.

Here comes the new Prozak for Lovers-- 10 songs of alienation and disenfranchisement made soothing and warm. Under the Prozak for Lovers Treatment, each song here opens itself up to reveal the beauty that lies within. From the hopeful magic of Lithium to a lethal, yet entirely approachable, Psycho Killer, from a drop-dead sexy Blister in the Sun to a completely inexplicable Alabama Song, this collection is truly a tonic for our times.

Here is another chance for your hi-fi (or whatever playback device you may happen to own) to be happy...again.

This concept it too good not to expand. I only hope it will lead to a series with a lot of differens musicians and styles.

Yeah, okay, by now you know...everyone LOVES Prozac for Lovers. I'm no exception. It's freakin' awesome. If you have both Prozac CDs, I would recommend another bossa nova CD by Todd Rundgren call With A Twist. It's not a CD baby item, but worth a visit elsewhere. XOXOX, P

  • Just say "Yes" to Prozac

Drugs get a bad rap by today's paternalistic, I-know-what's-best-for-you society. Drugs can be good; drugs can be the antidote to the ennui of everyday life. Take drugs, and thumb your nose at the religious right, who use a made up deity's supposed condemnations to try and frighten those of courageous enough to seek pleasure as an end in and of itself, and the religious left, who create an ersatz god in the form of the state which ends up performing the same smarmy function. And as far as this cd goes...dammit, buy the thing just for the simply ingenious cover of Nirvana's Lithium (although the whole cd is fantastic). Then just ignore the holier-than-thou at the end of the bar (damn it was a better world when he was just the cantankerous town drunk), who will never fully grasp the pleasures of Prozak for Lovers, or your favorite nicotine delivery device...his incessant yapping about how evil you are is just cover for impotence, both literal and figurative. I love this band.

  • Repeat Performance

I initially fell in love with this project after hearing their version of "Don't Fear The Reaper". All of the other songs from both the first and second CDs sound pretty much the same as that track: mellow, drugged-out vocals, vibraphones, and sparse guitars. The sound gets very repetitive after a few tracks, though. They should experiment a little with the sound on their next album, maybe some big Les Baxter-style drums or some Tijuana Brass. Their classic rock pool of cover songs seems a little limited as well; how about a Prozak cover of Christina Aguilera's "Dirty", or Venom's "Countess Bathory"? It's a nice record if you can't get enough of the Prozak sound, but don't expect to hear anything new or groundbreaking.

Great background music for cocktail parties...wait until someone actually recognizes the tune!

Just as good if not better than Volume 1. How about a Christmas cd? Or some bitter and twisted love songs for Valentine's? All of these songs are really well crafted, although there are a few I don't know, as a previous reviewer suggested a collection of really well known songs would definitely raise your profile. Thanks for both the albums.

I was talking to my friend James about this album, and I told him that if the original Talking Heads version of "Psycho Killer" was the song people heard when the killer did his deed, this version was the one playing in his head as he did it. Smooth and cool and relaxing.

This cd is so easy to listen to. It's great before, during and after the party and as a hangover cure, just hop on a float in the pool and be healed. It's better than lying on the couch watching golf!

The music on this CD has no international boundaries. Perhaps the world should adopt the mood of this music and maybe it would be a better place. First heard the CD whilst on holidays in Christchurch New Zealand whilst wandering through the old university (now an arts centre) and decided there an then that it was a must have CD. The music sort of set the mood for a very pleaseant holiday. On return to Australia tried many sources until I found the right one and now have both the Prozak CDs. Both have lived up to expectations with 2 being the favoured one. Great to listen to on a cold winters day in front of the fire whilst getting lost in a good book.

Love this one almost as much as the first! The only thing missing, of course, was the female vocals..."Bad Reputation" just leaves you wanting more Maura!

I may even like this second dose of Prozak better than the first, though I previously knew fewer of the songs on it. This is an excellent album for our times; the originals were better "then", but this is decidedly better "now". Another great album that I really enjoy hearing for many occasions. It starts great with Blister and goes on from there. This has a fabulous rendition of Misty Mountain Hop that isn't lacking a thing, even without Plant's voice. If they keep making them, I'll keep buying them. The only one I didn't think wonderful (though it is good) was Mexican Radio, but it didn't do much for me when Zappa sang it, either. Maybe the third dose will include Lola or Heavy Fuel or some others. There are so many Lash can choose from... Very enjoyable and highly recommended.

In case you didn't hear or you haven't been in the loop, yes, the new Prozak for Lovers album is here. One of the top sellers of all time at CD Baby- customers have gone mega-nuts over this. All we're going to say is that these are some surprising and alarming reincarnations of your favorite songs from the 70s, 80s and 90s. Relive those moments with the cool hiss of a loungey, bossa nova atmosphere.

  • Qu'est que c'est?
    author: Trevor Bibic

I have to admit to enjoying the first Prozak CD a little more. Probably the lack of instant novelty factor this time round, however I was definitely missing the female contribution. However, I don't know anything like these albums and they do have a very real ability to take you to another place, and that makes them something special. My personal highlight has to be Psycho Killer - the whispered lyric "...Qu'est que c'est?" had me in stiches - I totally anticipated it, it just seemed to fit so perfectly. Lastly while the finale "Alabama Song" left me somewhat baffled, overall I found this album to be ... smooth. p.s. Can we have one of these every Christmas please. Cheers.

  • Has same feel as the first, but missing a few things
author: Edward Burke, a College DJ and music booker in VT.

Prozak for Lover's Sophomore debut, conveniently titled the same as the first album with only a "II" to distinguish them, has the same laid-back, groovy bossa nova feel to it as Bruce Lash and Maura Covey continue to keep the music accoustic. This is very much Lash's album for he sings lead on all songs but one - "Bad Reputation", which Covey seems to sing in a more tense, subdued style then her solos on the first album. What's more, "Bad Reputation" is a song I have never heard in it's original version. There are actually 4 other covers on the album of which I have never heard original versions for. Perhaps if Prozak wanted to reach a wider fan base, they could cover songs that most eerybody has heard before-hence the popular titles rather then obscure compositions. (In the vein of obscure compositions, though, I absolutley love the old, vaudville piano on Prozak's cover of Alabama Song, made famous by the Doors). The highlight of the album, by far though, has got be the cover of Nirvana's "Lithium". The melody and guitar chords sound much like the ones in the original, and Lash's voice gets rough and bluesy enough to channel Kurt's spirt. Most comic on the album has got to be the cover of Blondie's "Heart of Glass". Covey should have sang lead on this one, though. Over all, this second effort has just as many delights as the first album - the percolating percussion, atmospheric organ, lilting flute and plinking vibrophone-it's all here. If you actually have heard many of these songs in their original versions before then you will appreciate Prozak for Lovers II much more then I did.

  • Get Ready to PARTY
    author: CHINASKI

Bought the first one and never looked back. Now Prozak for Lovers presents ten more smart and ironic covers of classic and hard rock songs. The results are of course goofy, giddy, pointlessly indulgent, and extremely silly, but damned if this ain't the best party album I've heard all year. This CD is ideal for relaxing, reading and studying, and, of course, cocktail hour.
