notes
In these modern times, we find ourselves in a world where life is a roller coaster of high wire expectations and inevitable nose-dive disappointments.
It is no wonder so many people have turned to pharmaceuticals as a means to even it all out. Prozak for Lovers is all about the highs and lows... and how to eliminate them.
From the refreshingly serene reading of Proud Mary, to a special "live" recording of Fulsom Prison Blues that seems to say, "Enough - let's go have drinks," this compilation is guaranteed to soothe the ears and ease the mind from the stress & anxiety of everyday modern life.
The unspoken optimism of Love Will Tear Us Apart - the soft romantic mood of Aqualung - and after hearing the Prozak rendition of (Don't Fear) the Reaper, one is forced to reconsider whether his Grimness is such a bad fellow after all.
The makers of Prozak for Lovers bring these classic songs of the ages to a new level.
Recordings designed to make you and your hi-fi happy... again.

author: pashavanee taeshapagapongthe ramones..do you know punkrock...it became..to be bossanova so cool & sexy!
diggin' it
author: donGreat for a lounge party. Mellow to the point of near death. ...but great fun! I didn't recognize the Chrissy Hynde tune until I checked the cd jacket to see who wrote it. The "I wanna be sedated" is my fav.
best chill/relaxation cd out there bar none.
author: pj rampsthis music is unique.Highly recommended especially after hard day at work or wind-down-anytime.
the ORIGINAL lounge covers CD!
author: donald bit's a great album, the tongue-in-cheek and knowing wink overshadowed by the fact that the originals are pretty much respected, and added to as the style is altered and stripped down to melody and lyrics. That's kinda what everyone else has said about the album, but it's worth mentioning that French bossa act Nouvelle Vague - who are doing great business in a simliar vein - have basically, ahem, 'borrowed' the Prozak idea, several years on. They even do the same tunes as this CD and Prozak II (Love Will Tear Us Apart, Heart of Glass) in not dissimilar style. Not too sure how they've got away with it! About time the Prozak crew got some recognition for their efforts (and I'm sure some advert syndication cash from some forward-thinking ad people?!?!)
I'm hooked...
author: Dan-WGood blend of 70's & 80's songs. Down right infectious. Rebel Rebel, Pump It Up, Aqualung and Message Of Love are addictive.
Elvis Costello digs Pump It Up cover
author: johnfoyleElvis Costello has said , in a NY radio interview , that this version of Pump It Up is his favourite cover of any of his songs.
Hilarious!
author: Phil AveryI won't be listening to this every day, but it is hilarious to watch the reaction of others when they finally tune into the lyrics. You need this CD!
This CD got me laid!!!
author: The CatFantastic, great, nice and soothing, very smooth. Also, the CD wasn't too bad either. I rate it a 4, The CD I rate a 4 also. :-P
BUY THIS CD NOW!! OR GO FOR A HIKE!!
author: Shoan TellBest CD ever!!! I love this CD. I can listen to it even when I'm off my meds!!!
Samba with a smile. Latin lovers find laughter in the lounge.
author: DekeStrangely this album works on two fronts. While I was chortling away to myself my mother was chilling out to the 'Latin lounge' vibes. Sounds a little like Leonard Cohen and Astrud Gilberto and would probably work wonders as background music in your favourite tropical bar, or at that party you were planning... Buy it for the laugh or buy it because because you genuinely like Light Latin Lounge.
A melow trip through some of the clasic songs well produced and exicuted .
author: dougie mclellanA melow chilled out approach to some clasic songs the harmonies are good . The renditition of songs like love will tear us apart and Aqualung is upliftingly good . A good album to chill out to.

Prozac © a selective-serotonin reuptake inhibitor commonly prescribed as an antidepressant now comes in a C.D. prescription which is recommended for use at dinner and cocktail parties. Place a copy of Prozak For Lovers, either volume 1 or 2 by Bruce Lash on you player and watch the pennies drop as the music permeates the room. Lash has taken a selection of rock music’s classic recordings and turned them into seductive lounge music. Creedence Clearwater Revival’s 1969 hit Proud Mary, Pump It Up by Elvis Costello, and Joy Division’s anthem Love Will Tear Us Apart are all given Lash’s easy listening treatment. Bossa novas, congas, haunting flutes and smooth jazz treatments have transformed, London Calling by The Clash, and the Ramone’s I Wanna Be Sedated into cool cocktail music. Lash whose day job is mixing T.V. commercials produced volume 1 of his soothing, sultry, yet sincere renditions of landmark rock songs in 1998. Volume 2 followed in 2005 which changed beyond recognition Kurt Cobain’s classic Nirvana track Lithium, Blondie’s Heart Of Glass, and even Led Zeppelin’s Misty Mountain Hop. Lash teamed up with singer Maura Corey to create a dreamlike half singing and half-speaking, party-perfect style. This music is original, doubted some may sneer, become outraged or call it muzak others will put away their pharmaceuticals, smile and play it again and again.
Love it Love it Love it
author: Sophie HunterLove this cd, loads and loads. Sunny day, Vodka and tonic and this cd is heaven.
Joy Bossa Division....excellent CD
author: tony waltersreally enjoyed listening to the CD, recommend it.
GREAT, FANTASTIC!
author: MusicloverProzak for Lovers is a must have, try it you will like it. CD Baby is the coolest site in the industry.
Has a good beat, and you can drink to it.
author: Mr. GarrisonDon't Fear the Reaper is one of my favorite songs, and this version is tres cool. I'm also tickled to finally clearly hear to lyrics to Aqualung...snot running down his nose in swanky velvet. The whole album has a great feeling of Perry Como. Nice.
Saving our marriage ...
author: Johnny5thumbsMy wife loves Astrud Gilberto and I've always been more of a Deep Purple / Elvis Costello rocker. Prozac for Lovers is something we can look forward to sharing together in our old age. I suspect that Mr. Costello himself might even appreciate what they've done to Prozac tribute band immediately. All I need now is a bass player. Nice work chaps !!
Yeahhhhhhh.......
author: JonnaIt just feels like it should be the soundtrack for a Twilight Zone movie. But definitely some prozac, a long island iced tea and Prozac for Lovers.....Blissville.
Don't listen. This is better appreciated by just hearing it happen.
author: RegiThis music is comforting. The tunes are especially familiar to many persons who became adults during the 1980's, and the style has stripped away all but the essential elements that connect the pieces, which form sounds into pleasant music. I am reminded of melodies from John Coltrane ballads. Keep it simple.
More Fun Than A Barrel of Swanky
author: Larry YoungAdding my voice to the throng giving praise to this album seems like saying Sophia Loren was the recipient of some good genes. Like, no kidding.
Good music to chill to
author: Some relaxed dudeArtists have made a CD that is easy to relax to. I like to have this as background when I'm pounding out an Excel spreadsheet or working on some other project. Hard to sit down and critically listen to this CD, but the recording is done great and acoustically it's very enjoyable. A must-have for anyone's collection.
atmosphere music with a twist
author: cyberpilateSure, it's not something you're gonna listen intently to, but man.... what a great album to turn on with company over and watch their faces quirk as they realize which lyrics they're hearing. Or even just to put on and chill out to, music to clean house, read or enjoy the sunshine with.
Nice twists
author: anaglyphInteresting that so many people have thought this CD's main value is its humour. While it does have a sense of wry amusement, I think that the settings for the songs actually illuminate their inherent worthiness. Bruce Lash obviously loves this material. It's a testament to good songwriting that each of these pieces can be moved into a genre as far away from the originals and still have some value. This is an eminently listenable collection. At times it is a little rough and clunky, but it transcends these moments. Don't buy it because you want a laugh - you'll tire of that aspect quickly. But DO buy it, because it is something you'll play over and over.
A Must for EVeryONE
author: hozehoJust bye it. Don't think about it. Just do it.
- author: Jason H.
Great CD!! Bruce Lash takes songs that you love and puts a new spin on them. If you love variety in your music. This is one to have.
Nice!!!
author: April ChaseIf only all cover bands were this creative! Funny, too - no matter who I've played the CD for, everyone has enjoyed it...It is said "you can't please them all," but in this case, I guess you can!
ahhhh
author: Chris A.I listened to a couple of samples on the site and picked up the CD; however you feel about what you hear here, the disc is very consistent. I've played it for a few people, all of whom loved it too. And if loving this is wrong, I don't want to be right.
Wicked interesting
author: Pattya wicked interesting take on some old songs, got me humming rather than rocking but it felt good. Can't wait to make a cd pairing these versions with the originals - should make for a great car ride!
the sounds that represent me
author: orchidSo, I was riding in the car with a friend, and she asked me what type of music I thought represented me and my life. I thought a moment and told her about the CD Prozak for lovers...Lounge, baby, lounge...mellow, simple, tasteful, a little witty...and just my type of drug.
Groovy
author: Stephanie Shearersmooth and soothing... clever
Amusing and clever, but overrated
author: AnthonyI hate to be a party pooper but I didn't think that was as great as all the other reviewers. It is hilarious.. but the novelty is wearing off, it is destined for that "play it once a year" box.
just the coctail to take the edge off !
author: Memoranda FataleI first heard some tracks on wfmu.org, and I was instantly hooked on this music. If you like astrid gilberto, if you like serge gainsbourg, if you like prozak, combustible edisons, and long walks on the beach.... if you're a taurus like me.... if you enjoy life.... you will just adore this chunk of musical massage!
suggestion for 2nd CD
author: -BAI am already slouching in line waiting for the Second Edition of Prozak. May I suggest "Ballroom Blitz" for inclusion on the 2nd CD? Great CD!
very impressive album
author: -BAThis is a wonderful collection that I really enjoy listening to, not just as a gee-whiz for friends to laugh about. I expected I'd consider it comedy and only rarely want to hear it, but I find myslf listening to it and going over it in my head quite a bit. Very enjoyable and very well done. Great CD.
Hmmm... interesting.
author: KateI've listened to my "Prozak for Lovers" CD many a time, and I still can't decide whether it's hilarious or just down-right genious. Either way it's fun to listen to.
witty and relaxing
author: sheilagives you a deeper appreciation of the lyrics. folsom prison blues is even more poignant in this style.
Kudos to this band for their profound and prozakian insight
author: FlynnA spa for the soul. I have been transported lethewards into a warm bath of reverb. A great cd. Do click and buy.
Did somebody say "brilliant and unique" at the same time?
author: Edward Burke, World MD WWPV 88.7-FMhttp://personalweb.smcvt.edu/wwpv/ This CD, "Prozak for Lovers" by the group of the same name, is either lounge music for classic rock fans, or the ultimate sacreligious cover band in the history in the music. Anyway you slice it, it's a cool CD-full of atmospheric keyboards, jazzy bossa-nova guitar, plinking vibraphone and plenty of percussion rolling on a river. The CD "updates" all the classics - Credence Clearwater Revivlal, Blue Oyster Cult, The Clash, Elvis Costello, even Johnny Cash-it's all here and my Dad would hate this CD! If you're looking for sexy, turn no further then Maura Corey, and her breathy intro to "Proud Mary", and Bruce Lash's occaisional baritone, especialy on "Folsom Prison Blues" which reminds me of Brazil's great Joao Gilberto of "Girl from Ipanmema" fame . Other tracks of honorable mention include my favorite - "Dont fear the Reaper", "Pump it Up", "I Wana be Sedated" and the extraordinarily wierd cover of Jethro Tull's "Aqua Lung". This CD Reviewer is wondering - "Hey, where's the flute"? At least they got the cowbell right in "Don't Fear the Reaper". So If you fancy a little genre-bending upgrade to your favorite classic songs, then this CD is for you.
Kitschy & Delightful Mellow Goodness
author: Annette McClellanI fell in love with this CD a few months back here on the CD Baby site, but procrastinated in buying it. If a sequel ever comes out, I shan't make that mistake again.
it ain't easy, but it sounds like it
author: rbcarneyhaving an outrageous sense of humor and solid craftmanship and being true to the original all at once is tough any time you try it. these guys really nail it. laugh your ass off. everyone I know who listens to this disc does.
Groovy baby
author: MallI loved this CD. IT's all jazzy and hip! YUM
- author: Carey Griffin
The CD came on time, in excellent condition, This wasn't even the best part. I played it at a party and I think you can expect more orders. LOVE this CD. There is nothing out there like it.
- author: Cristina
It cures road rage! Especially for those who have to endure any kind of commute in Southern California, keep this one in your car or headphones.

A mellow lounge duo doing classic hard rock cover songs. Bowie and The Clash as bossa nova? The ultimate lounge party CD. Dripping with sarcasm, dusted with irony, drowned in cynicism. You have to hear the sound clips...
Bring me a dry martini...STAT !
author: JereLounge + cocktail + Prozak for Lover = a happy Jere ---- Best version of Love will tear us Apart ..ever..better than the original !
Madness
author: OtherguyThis album was given as a gift and reminded me of the album, from House of Teriyaki. The chord progressions and style of singing was very intrusive and mastered by professionals. two thumbs up
sad and alarming
author: Booboo BearThe sad is that I've heard a lot worse in lounges. The alarming is that in today's brave new world I sort of like it. Pass the soma!
The Cover Band, Reinvented
author: AliWhat Me First and the Gimme Gimmes has done with punk for the cover song, so has Prozak for Lovers, with the bossa nova. The new and totally different spin these talented musicians put on classic songs like Proud Mary reinvent them, proving that great music can really stand the test of time. Put this one on in your car softly and wait for one of your friends to say, 'Wait a minute, turn the CD up. Is this Aqualung?'
Look out Weird Al
author: SweeperDaveWhat Yankovich Jr. does for pop, Prozak For Lovers does for, well, pop too. Polka accordian isn't the only way to retexturize your favorite hits. After listening to a few tracks you'll either: 1. Gain a new appreciation for the old stuff. 2. Gain a new appreciation for bossa nova. 3. Find yourself giggling to yourself like a deranged idiot. 4. All of the above. The arrangements are all amazingly well-produced which goes to show how far some will go for a laugh. I only hope there's more Prozak in the works.
10 CC's of Prozak Stat!
author: Will Grega (The Lord of Acid Lounge)I like to feel comfortable. In the gauzy sounds draped around this familiar punk/pop/rock classics we are allowed to exhale, float, rethink, and not think. A real giggle!
Laugh or Groove??
author: SparkyI didn't know if I should laugh or groove. I love it! You will too.
LOL!
author: GlauberAqualung! Don't Fear the Reaper! I'm rolling on the floor laughing. Good job, guys!
Easy on my Prozak-affected ears and brain!
author: Drew GadouryI'm listening now, and I couldn't feel better. Thanks Prozac for Lovers! Thanks Prozac!
Let me slip into something familiar...
author: beeI recommend playing this for unsuspecting guests as you sedate them with wine and cheese. Watch as they slip into a deep relaxation and then rise slowly back out of it...recognizing the lyrics..."Is that?" they will say with astonishment, "Aqualung?" Yes. Yes it is.
- author: dave
perfect for those occasions when the ramones are too much, if there is such a thing.
relaxing, meditative, peaceful,
author: Rachel PlattenI love the chill vibe of this, great for any ear, I play it all the time with a glass of wine and a pair of slippers.
Where is my gun
author: Ken RutkowskiAfter listening to all the songs, I needed to find a gun and shoot myself over and over so the pain in my ears would stop.
This stuff is 14-karat!
author: DeanoKatGreat covers of great songs...done in a totally cool and unique style. Until you've heard "London Calling" and "Pump It Up" done as lounge tunes, you haven't lived! You MUST have this CD for your next cocktail party!
Made me laugh quietly
author: NoelI wanted to hear the next song and the next. Very fun background music that made people listen.
Great background dinner music w/ a twist!
author: J. BossI couldn't sleep one night and while surfing the site, the album caught my attention. After listening to a few cuts, I was hooked. Now I have ordered additional copies for all my 50 yr. old friends. Thanks guys!
Great way to unwind, without going to Vegas/Reno/Tahoe
author: Ray FamilyOur generational choice of music can now be shared with Grampa, without his realizing he's listening to Rock. We chuckle behind his back at some of the lyrics he's too old to hear. Some of our favorites are "Pump it up","Aqualung" & "I wanna be sedated". Listening to lounge music is really a blast now. Great mindless background music for all generations to enjoy together, over cocktails.
Phenomenal
author: BastianIt's like an incredibly smooth pull of the finest opium in the world, topped with enough cognitive dissonance for any intellectual masochist. What else is there to say?
Fantastico...
author: LizThis CD is ridiculously amazing! It's perfect for chillin' with your midterms in the library, driving home for Thanksgiving, and reuniting with your homies over plenty of cheap wine. I'd purchase it for everyone I knew as a giftie-poo for Christmas, be it my grandparents who wouldd think the songs were odd, but the beats were great, or my closest of friends who would appreciate the true nature of bossa-nova David Bowie.
Fantastic charicter & funny at times a must for the collector !
author: Edward Dowdy of Pinnacle RecordsExcellent !!!It was fun ! Easy to listen to. And I am always looking for new and exciting music to sign . As soon as I get back from the World tour with the Golden Loadies I will be in touch.I think they are super & a bag of chips ! Edward Dowdy
Will completely recontextualize your musical library.
author: Ivar SandsmarkI introduced this CD without fanfare while my wife and her neighbor friend were yacking in the living room. They were completely oblivious. After a while, the neighbor, who is in her mid-30's, wrinkled her nose and inquired about the "weird" music I was playing. Her musical tastes are, well, rather limited. I attempted to explain the usage of classic rock lyrics in a completely different musical environment and the hilarious results achieved. She looked extremely uncomfortable for a few seconds, then proclaimed that I was "very weird." I knew then that I had in my hands possibly one of the greatest recordings ever made in the history of music.
clever...right on target
author: The Preacher Curlsthe male/female vocals give the cd an authentic lounge sound. If this was recorded in 1968, you wouldn't be able to tell... I love it!
Fun!!
author: TIA KNIGHTThis cd is so fun to listen to with a group of friends!! Gets the party going!
Over and Over again
author: Eliana Gilad, Founder, Voices of EdenI was introduced to this album by cdbaby.com and friends as well. As a composer of natural health and relaxation music - NOAM - cdbaby.com and www.voicesofeden.com, I was, at first turned off by the name of Prozak. But after the congas and brazilian inspired renditions softly seeping their way into the 'ol audial canals, one could listen to this musical medicine, again and again.
Strangely Sultry
author: Dan Cudahy (CHINASKI)This album is strangely sultry despite its lack of highs and lows, no guitar solos or screaming choruses here. All of the songs are handled with reverence, and the structure of each song is kept intact, just instrumented with congas, flutes, chimes and the like. This is music that makes you want to drink cocktails till dawn and prove you are wittier than Oscar Wilde.
A very interesting re-creation of classic songs
author: Benjamin PoppIt's a good idea to play these classics with this mood. Funny and musical. In my native language: Super idée de jouer ces classiques avec ce swing chaloupé. Une vraie re création de classiques.
Over and over again
author: MeganI listen to this CD almost every day! Never get tired of it. Great for family parties...all ages.
Soothing and sarcastic lounge music for everyone
author: HealingRainProzak for Lovers presents ten smart and ironic covers of classic and hard rock songs. Like all lounge music, the instrumentation is mellow and the vocals relaxed. However, there is a layer of sarcasm in these renditions not usually found in this genre. Prozak for Lovers seems to be simultaneously poking fun of the songs, themselves, and anyone who takes this seriously. This CD is ideal for relaxing, reading and studying, and, of course, cocktail hour.
fabulous!
author: JenniferFunny, but still has a life beyond a single-listen novelty song. It's a staple for our dinner parties!
Way cool!
author: DonThis is a keeper CD! I've enjoyed about 3 listens of this CD and it's too much! (I'm a searching for more from these 2 artists....) Suggest you give it a go as well.
Fresh sounding Music!
author: WajdiThe music is fresh and cool...I especially like the duet on Love will tear us apart. www.wajdicherif.com
Desert Island CD
author: Bruce Lomet (CHINASKI)You have GOT to check this out. This is a desert island CD. I particulary love the rendition of Aqualung. Smooth out all the rough edges of your day... of your LIFE.
Fantastic, smart, groovy CD!
author: JonnelleAfter listening to the sample tracks, I knew I had to have this CD. It's fun, smart, quirky, and excellent musically. I play it at work and it's been fun to see people's reaction as they hear "Rebel Rebel" in the background while we are talking. I highly recommend this CD and hope they produce more!.
I Laughed! I Lounged! I Layed Down!
author: Will Grega (Stereotonic)You gotta have a gimmick, but this is nuts: enforced relaxation response by fooling the brain's ingrained expectations of rock and new wave classics. This is re-programming and I love it! We only do things nice...and nice! Hilarious! Love it and telling all my friends about it.
THIS IS GOOD RIDEING MUZEK
author: AJAYI LISTENED TO "PROUD MARY" TWICE AND LOVE THE GROOVE I REALLY LIKE THE QUALITY AND PRODUCTION THE WAY YOU DID IT IS VERY MOODY
OMG! This is too much!!
author: HLBuriI bought this CD on the advice of a friend. I had listened to the sound snippets on cdbaby.com and thought it was hysterical! What a great conversation piece. I was not disappointed. I can't wait for the next one to come out.
Excellent Dinner Party Conversation Starter
author: ZaphodThe song selections were excellent and gets a laugh out of everyone. Excellent musicianship and vocals, if you didn't understand English you would think that the songs were original Bossa Nova songs.
If you like mellow, must have!
author: Mark MaiselThe songs are well known. The treatments are extraordinarily well done. You may not recognize snippets and may think some of this sacrilege. If so, lighten up and enjoy. I love it and will buy more if these folks put more out!
Dig it now... and then dig it again later!
author: Buzz McIntyreAbsolutely groovy in every way, Prozak for Lovers features cool reharmonizations of Rock'n'Roll classics (check out Folsom Prison Blues, for example). Yes, it has a comic edge but remains true to the spirit and the style of 60's and 70's Easy Listening genre. Only rarely does one see such a seamless blending of the comedic and the artistic. Should be required listening for all working musicians.
Any sensible music lover owns this CD
author: soozProzac for Lovers is one of those "stranded on a desert island" essential CDs.
What a Stress reliever.Prozak for Lovers is just too much!
author: Phil DelgadoThis is just too cool. Great idea! Need more tunes like Smoke on the Water, I'm the God of hell fire,or even a few selections from FZ entitled "Prozak for Lovers does Frank Zappa" Too bad I work with a bunch of pencil neck geeks. They don't even have a clue.Thank you for introducing me to PFL.
Refreshing!
author: Rootsy RecordsNice and different! Nice and Nice!
Bossa nova muzak for the masses .
author: Indie MonkeyRead the full review at www.indiemonkey.com... Dreamy and soothing are probably never words you thought could be used to describe 'London Calling', but now they can. Joining the title track of the best punk album ever are covers of Bowie's 'Rebel Rebel', CCR's "Proud Mary' and Blue Oyster Cult's seminal piece of silliness '(Don't Fear) the Reaper', to name but three...
Almost a classic ALMOST!
author: RustyLounge has alot to answer for, and Prozac for lovers gives you every loving spoonful with a sweet smooth slow style that is so catchy that you can't help but love it. Forget the road rage, forget that boss you can't stand, forget the credit card bills and slip into this velvet sound that could be called 'songs to shag by'. If you haven't got this baby in you CD collection than you don't know how to enjoy a good wine, open fire or make love till dawn. Expore the lounge, explore the floor, explore the whole house, but do it to 'Prozak for lovers'. I wouldn't call this a masterpiece, but for sure an almost classic.
Sexy, Sleepy, cool bonez!
author: Josh SelfI love this stuff! Although I originally bought it for the comedic value (*Snot running down his nose...* - Aqualung), I still find myself putting this cd in when I want to chill out. Even though everyone thinks I have gone off the deep end, I still say this stuff grooves. Oh yea, Maura, has got one of the sexiest voices I have ever heard (nuf said |-). Yea, get this cd if you want something different, its a good transitional cd from the world of pop/rock to the Lounge world.
When is the next one coming out?
author: Claudia WilsonI love it !! I thought it was just terrific choices and terrific renditions. I can hardly wait for the next one . This stuff sounds great !
Chicago Sun-Times: THREE STARS!
author: Chicago Sun-TimesThree stars.
- author: Jim DeRogatis
Bruce Lash is a Chicago musician who has delivered dead-on bossa-nova lounge-Muzak versions of 10 of the unlikeliest songs ever to garner such treatment, from "Proud Mary" to "Aqualung," "(Don't Fear) The Reaper" to "I Wanna Be Sedated," and "London Calling" to "Fulsom Prison Blues." This is the most fun I've associated with Prozak since reading Elizabeth Wurtzel. The results are of course goofy, giddy, pointlessly indulgent, and extremely silly, but damned if this ain't the best party album I've heard all year. Reasons for Living
- author: Ed's Easy Hour
Out of Chicago comes the hilarious Prozak for Lovers. An obsessed man, one Bruce Lash, hooked up with friend Maura Corey to cover ten songs in the easy bossa tradition. The results are great for those who want to hear rock easified: "London Calling", "Proud Mary", "Aqualung", "(Don't Fear) the Reaper", "Love Will Tear Us Apart", and "I Wanna Be Sedated" to name just a few sterling versions. And they're perfect tracks to listen to (in moderation) while barbecuing in the back yard. The problem is that Bruce covered the songs utilizing the same tempo and instruments creating the sense that one is listening to a very long medley. You may want to only place one or two of these songs on a mix tape. If listened to all the way through, you will surely find yourself wanting to kill someone. And if I'm not mistaken, listening to Easy is normally practiced to keep oneself from committing murder. Be careful. Lumpen Magazine
- author: Rod Lott
Ten classic-rock staples are whipped into slow-motion, easy-going elevator favorites on Prozak for Lovers, a task that amounts to making Molotovs into Manhattans. Yet Bruce Lash- the man behind the guitar and xylophones- and vocalist Maura Corey manage to whip up a loose, dreamy ride. The effect of hearing the hits of Jethro Tull ("Aqualung") and Blue Oyster Cult ("Don't Fear the Reaper") deconstructed and reconstructed as background music for your trip to the dentist's chair, the result is rather intoxicating (the inclusion of The Ramones' "I Wanna Be sedated" is not accidental), but you won't need any Dramamine. The humorous, *what-if?* scenario behind the concept is evident (wouldn't Joe Strummer *die* over hearing "London Calling" neutered of all its rebellious bite?), yet never becomes novelty-something RCA's Jamyz Bee cannot claim. In the end, Lash's idea turns out to be the most rebellious of all. Though a self-produced affair, the production and packaging amount to a total pro job. Hitch Magazine
- author: Johan Dada Vis
Nine rock/pop classics and one country song are given the "Prozak for Lovers" sedated, EZ treatment. You'll hear two soft voices (Bruce Lash & Maura Corey), reminding me a bit of Francis Lai, very subtly accompanied by acoustic guitar, conga, raspe, flute, bass, vibes and organ, giving the sound a slight Brazilian touch. The atmosphere is intimate, relaxed, and often sexy (especially Maura Corey solo in "Rebel rebel"... yummy!) This is not a parody project, or a tongue-in-cheek camp album, like the groovy Mike Flowers Pops, or the over-the-top cavalcade of cliches in Jaymz Bee's multi-talented "Cocktail shakin' and stirred". No, this is fine, tasteful, excellent musicianship, with love and respect for the originals AND the resulting easy listening cover versions. Dada'quariums Exotica
