The Projects began as an idea between JB and Jen back in 2005, when they hooked up together as song writers. JB and Lambie had talked about a hybrid band a year before, but finding like-minded musicians wasn't easy.

Originally the Projects had two drummers and have undergone a few changes since it's inception but the current line-up and sound is a result of a collective effort and influence. Jen is a prolific songwriter and freestyling vocalist who has the ability to create an almost fully-formed song on the back of a jam session. JB brought his flute playing and experience of being in several bands (PILGRYM and a succesful "world music" outfit) to the mix, after spending years of playing in Northern jazz clubs. Afro Chris is a curious character: born years after the release of the albums and bands that are closest to his heart, he is an instinctive and soulful bass player.

From the first few meetings in Local York pubs, these four knew that they were onto something. Along the way they met up with the Birdman, Mark and finally the Phantomdrum who was the catalyst for the brew. Taking their strength from the breakbeats and rhythms of dance culture and mixing it with the psychedelia of bands such as iMonster, The Floyd, Lemon Jelly and Gong, The Projects attempted to make a new stand on British triphop, by stirring up a massive collection of sounds. JB takes original samples from nature, urban life and street sounds to form the foundation of the beats and structure while Jen surfs gracefully over the top with vocals taken from life both here and in France, where she is also resident. The Projects songs tell a story of modern life and modern lives.
