Project 814 "Declassified" ushers in a return to the truth in rock music by combining elements of traditional classic rock with progressive tendencies and meaningful lyrics. Launched in a time when the music industry superpowers appeared focused on force-feeding the public "manufactured" boy bands, "sexually enhanced" teenyboppers and the self-destructive screams of metallic rappers.

It was because of this overwhelming evidence of a global conspiracy to deceive the ears and control the minds of music fans that a new genre of music was formed, called "conspiracy rock". Project 814 Declassified is another salvo fired in an effort to further unveil the fact that there is truth and talent found in independent music.

Songwriter/Bassist/Producer Jon Pomplin has created a journey that explores ideas about teen suicide, alcoholism, spirituality and the eternal search for love. Jon runs the gambit and puts it all out on the table for the listener with his powerful lyrical imagery and intricate musical soundscapes.

The CD features Jon Pomplin on bass, Mark Summers on guitar, Jim Miller on keyboards, Bob "the Birdman" Brady on percussion, and acclaimed Producer/Vocalist Todd Joos on vocals. It was produced by Jon and Todd at Cellar Records.

    A good, honest, effort at music for the sake of music. Project 814 doesn't endeavour to take you into boy band land or screaming metal land. Instead, it concentrates on delivering good music played in a stunning manner. A collection of great musicians who work hard at delivering great music which is heavily influenced by what they like rather than what record label executives (read accountants) like. There's a freshness and an honesty in this music (in particular in "Catamaran Tack" which features great bass work) which are certainly welcome after going through a pile of major label CDs. I think this band have what it takes to go places. Looking forward to more from them.

    This album has a consistency and tightness that is a rarity. Project 814 is a rock solid band that offers a rock-progressive sound that never lets up, not for a second. This is the kind of music that keeps you all pumped up, from start to finish. This band is not too hard or too soft, they play the type of music almost everyone would like, including other musicians, who would flock to see them perform live. It’s like when you go to a Dream Theater concert; there is nothing but musicians there. I think this kind of talent deserves that kind of attention and respect. This is top of the line rock music folks…you will love it.

    Jon Pomplin, bassist of Project 814, could teach musicians a course on self-marketing. His band's recent release Declassified arrived complete with a dossier of files, exposing the secret conspirators behind this intriguing achievement. Project 814 has been compared favourably to both Cream and Jethro Tull. For months, I was unable to label this truly diverse, expansive group with an appropriate descriptor, and at this moment I don't feel any more competent to do so. What I am certain of, is that the talent of this project runs deep. Should David Letterman's "World's Most Dangerous Band" disappear in a plane crash, or should some other up and coming TV personality need a group capable of being equally at home in any given style of music -- these guys would be it. While it might be a disservice to them (to have to play cover tunes on cue at the wave of a host's hand), it would at least pay the bills nicely, while they waited for the world to discover the treasure trove of their original compositions.

    Songwriter/bassist Jon Pomplin has opened his file of songs and laid them down on tape with the help of several co-conspirators. What will be found within Declassified are 10 tracks of rock, tinged with elements of jazz, country, metal, all with a touch of progressiveness. Even if you can't find the "prog" quotient in the music, I think you will come to not care. It is so refreshing to hear rock that is both intelligent and catchy again. The fodder being fed at radio today... well, you know how it is. Slick, overproduced...lame...empty...syrupy... even the roots rock that seems to save us from the boy bands has become formulaic -- so thank goodness for Project 814. This is solid rock, played very well. It's an album that works on two levels, the first being the music. It's catchy, memorable, accessible. The second level is the lyrics, intelligently written vignets that belie an easy description. They are lyrics that come with baggage, whether it's from you because you can relate, or from Pomplin, because you can read between the lines to see what he's not saying. I really like this album... to hear why, you can hear clips from the album at the band's website. Recommended.

    Well, what can be said about Project 814 that hasn’t already been said? This group, led by bassist Jon Pomplin, has garnered praise from such sources as The Boston Herald, Jeff Berlin, Dann Glenn, and Adam Nitti. How have they received all this attention and acclaim? The answer is simple. Project 814 is a group that makes music for the right reason: love of music. And, miraculously, they have captured their passion on a CD.

    ...Bassist and Cellar Records guru Jon Pomplin's CD "Declassified" has proven that there is indeed good music out there to be heard despite the the prepackaged metal, genetically enhanced teen goddesses and the like, that we are force-fed by the record companies today. Pomplin's music is progressive and well thought out "musicians music" with some great lyrical statements along the way. Jon has a hell of an ability to write catchy/intricate lines that draw the listener in to the music.
