notes

When The Profiles wrote "The End is Nigh" they weren't being entirely truthful because they are about to unleash their second offering which continues to expand and expound on their philosophy of "All Balls Out All Of The Time".

The Profiles work in colour. They don't use monochrome drum loops or rhyming dictionaries.

In this, their first album they take the orchestral palette of the Swing Era and muddy it with cheap-sounding electric guitars and carelessly tuned synthesizers. This mess is then harnessed to a tasteful and swinging rhythm section and redeemed finally by the sweet and serious soulful sound of Sam, the lead singer with a degree in quantum navel gazing.

In "Take Me To The One I Love" a man struggles to find his way home after a night out, admonished by an hyperactive barbershop quartet.

"Star Wars" is an ill-advised wrong turn into mawkish English Stadium Chamber Music. Watch out for the relieved final E major 13.

Listen to "Make Me An Angel" where a bit of toolshed R&D produces Britain's first functioning space program which leads to an ugly discovery on Mars.

If you wish to contact a Profile there is probably one on your continent. Go to www.theprofiles.co.uk or www.myspace.com/theprofiles and send a message. With their nuanced liberal education they make agreeable correspondents.

It's so good, I hope this is the last record I hear before the reds decide to push the button down.

Every song on this album is memorable. Great lead vocal, superb harmonies and impeccable musicianship. Hasn't left my CD player since I got it two weeks ago. WHO ARE THESE GUYS?
