"Her music borders on many styles: jazz, blues, old country, folk and pop. Throw in some eerie harmonizer effects, a shoe-full of bitter and a healthy dose of fun sarcasm, and you almost have an impression of what to expect." Rory Dowd, RN&R

BIO
At first glance, one might wonder if she escaped from someone's knick-knack box, or the page of a storybook filled with enchanted tales and unpredictable endings. Upon encounter, one may find the magnifying glass obsolete and that she does not fit well into confined spaces. No one knows for sure, but it has been speculated that Kung Fu Sophie's elusive roots were once grounded in the biggest little valley of a distant and dangerously explosive planet. It is believed that Kung Fu Sophie escaped the hostile, arid environment via a quickly constructed, self-made ark, suitable for space travel. Fortunately, she was able to rescue a guitar, a piano, and her voice. After enduring a long, arduous journey through uncharted territory, Kung Fu Sophie unexpectedly landed on Planet Earth. She has been drop kicking expectations ever since as she shares her music with our world. Compared to the earthly likes of Regina Spektor, Laurie Anderson, Tori Amos, and Rickie Lee Jones.

  • Surprisingly good
    author: Steve Midgley

I admit I didn't expect Sophie to as talented a musician as she demonstrates on this album. Worth listening to.

  • Lyrical and hysterical at the same time
    author: Kelly Williams

Sophie's ability to capture the moment is a rare gift. Her songs are not only amazingly lyrical and sometimes haunting, but can be hysterically funny as well. If you get the chance to see her live, run do not walk to that venue. I promise, you won't be disappointed.

Not to be redundant, but Train Song is fantastic. Sophie has a real talent for creating eloquent and thoughtful lyrics that you won't forget. The whole cd is fun and thought-provoking with equally brilliant lyrics and song writing as well as a beautiful, memorable voice. Go Sophie!

  • moody, silly and dreamy
    author: Tom Gordon

This is a very promising first release from Sophie. It really captures the moodiness, cleverness and humor of her writing and arrangments. At times there is some loose playing from the live performances, but her compositional skills clearly shine through. The studio recording of "Train Song" is flippin genius!

  • Love this CD!

I absolutely love this CD! Sophie has such a beautiful voice and quirky view of the world and relationships. I hope she comes to Atlanta and puts out a new CD. I do have to say that the photo of Sophie's vocal cords on the inside of the CD case freaked me out at first but it is very creative!
