Called 'Improvised Acoustic Americana' by this heartfelt duo -- the trademark sound includes acoustic guitars, harmonicas, bluesy vocals and the channeled spirit of the hillbilly shaman.

notes

Improvising Every Moment
That's how they do it. Every song is recorded without any prior planning or rehearsal. It's bluegrass, folk, and some odds and ends all laid down in real-time and right from the heart.

The Porch Pistols are floating down the stream of consciousness with their new release The Porch Pistols. Their following grows as these hillbilly shamans deliver the sound and feel that redirects the soul to a better place. With their creative approach to traditional and new music, the Porch Pistols conduct this spooky train to mystic destinations where even everyday concepts are not what they seem.

For some, this is the first chance to hear pure music with catchy melodies. Tommy Chaffee's voice is an instrument played with raw love of the song, while his brother Carmen Torrise plays on his guitfiddle. People are letting their inhibitions fall away with the rise and fall of each melodic phrase. Rock-solid guitar and stylish harmonica add interesting touches to the songs.

  • Great Songs

Dreamin' Of is a very nice song. The guitar playing is very good. The singer has a good voice.

  • Good Stuff

Overall great stuff. Only heard the samples but I think I would have edited differently at the intros. For live recordings this is a nice spacious sound. Some very strong songs with strong vocals and sweet guitar, and 1 I don't like - it's personal taste.

  • One I Really Like

Dreamin' Of is the song. I may care about the other songs later, but Dreamin' Of sounds like a million bucks.

Can't wait until these two put up a new release. Listening to this CD makes me feel like I've got a front row seat to the start of something really big. Great recording!

  • Very Good Music
    author: Gerry D.

The Porch Pistols have a song for every mood. I have seen them in person, so I also have the benefit of hearing songs that are not on the debut album. I have also had the joy of watching them make up songs on the spot about events that were happening at the time. They can go from serious+deep to funny+silly in a heartbeat. When I need something slow,I play "Broken I" or "Dreamin' Of." When I want to play songs with more energy, I play "Little Suzie." I think "Union Blues" is the hit for most people, and it's a very catchy song. I guess I would say they play the same chords and notes as everyone else, but they play them differently than I have ever heard before. At the start of some songs, you can hear them discussing ideas - that's cool. It shows they are not sure what is going to happen. I think this music is good for traditional folk lovers and people like me who just like to hear what can happen when two talented guys take the stage and go for it.

  • Now a Believer

The first time I heard the Porch Pistols, their sound was not something I really cared for. However, the more I listened, the more I grew to like their music. Later, I spoke with one of the band members and commented on how I was positively impressed with their style. Listen to their music and I think you'll agree.

  • Nice start

The Porch pistols have a unique sound and the songs have a myriad of musical textures that reminds me of the diversity of natural wonders the pine barrens and cedar swamps of my surrounding area hold. Tom's vocals and Carmen's guitar playing are truly a joy to hear. Personal favorites of mine are Down on the Water, Broken 1 and The Fire. I think these two are off to a good start but maybe need an instrumental or two to really transport me to the magic that I feel from my beloved pines.

I saw them live in NJ. This album is an accurate reflection of their show. They had a simple, but great sound and they were very clever. They have an almost psychic interaction that really affected the room. I recommend this album for people who like strong, original music. Thank you.

  • What a Sound!
    author: Sandy S.

I love the individual songs, but I also like the way I get to hear the process going on in their heads - like they're playing right in front of me. This is really different and intimate. I love Down on the Water and Broken I. There is something about the sound (tone?) of this that is so great.
