notes

The music of phoenix/NEBULIN is an amalgam of sounds that blend the harsh, unforgiving drive of the industrial and metal music genres with captivatingly melodic tones. Lyrically, they guide you into the recesses of their imagination and offer an alternative perspective of the world, which at times is a meridian between blind rage and gentle insightfulness. Their live performances are exceptionally intense; delivering an unexpected amount of power and emotion that never fails to leave the audience less than astounded.
The band, phoenix/NEBULIN, was a dream that became reality shortly after the marriage of lead vocalist Linda and bassist Armando Doval on July 23, 2001. Their initial songwriting, much like everything else in their personal relationship, was short and intense immediately spawning the creation of several musical compositions. A month after recording their first demo phoenix/NEBULIN stepped out onto the live scene playing their debut show at the now locally legendary Underland Privat. A few more shows followed before they made the decision to take a long hiatus from live performances when they learned the were expecting their first child. During this time away from the spotlight they directed their energy to the songwriting process creating almost all of the songs featured on their debut full length CD, entitled Distanza.

In August 2002, after the birth of Linda and Armando's daughter Luna, phoenix/NEBULIN once again stepped out onto live scene. The compositions that are featured on Distanza proved to be a challenge to play live simply as a duo. That barrier gave way to the decision to bring other musicians into the family. In 2003 they added a guitarist and keyboardist to the band's lineup enabling the sound to become fuller and more engaging to the ear as well as add a whole new aspect to their live performances on a visual level. Both members left in mid 2004, giving way to new guitarist James Wargacki stepping into the line up.

Collectively, phoenix/NEBULIN have the simple and modest goal of creating music that will inspire and move their listeners. Lead vocalist Linda Doval explains the band's goals. "Of course every musician wishes for the ability to sustain a life off of the fruits of the creative labor but I would also like to make an impression. I want our music to inspire others to follow through with their own creative dreams and never forget that the voice they have inside is powerful, beautiful and should never be muted."

  • This Album is pretty freakin' sweet

This Album has got to be one of the better Industrial Rock albums put out in the last couple of years. Heavy Industrial beats with the right amount of guitar and synth work, plus the beautiful voice of Phoenix makes this album a great buy.

  • This is an awesome group.

THis was/is a great CD. Not only do the songs carry a resonance that isn't typically heard with newer albums, but ALL the songs are great. There are of course favorites, but every song adds its own power to the album. In one word, addictive.

  • Simply AMAZING!

P/N is on another level, sounding like the first born of arguably the greastest lady-lead band ever, Guano Apes. However, P/N is somehow evolved in its sound, which it just SICK SO F--KING GOOD! It's Crack for the ears!MMM so good!!

This is easily one of the best cd's I have ever purchased. I even rate this above a lot of the mainsream bands. My fav band is probably Evanescence, which is how I found phoenix/NEBULIN from doing a search for bands that are similiar here on cdbaby. I have had this cd consantly playing. I don't know how they are only still an independant band, a record label would be very smart to sign them as soon as possible, can't wait to see them in concert. Amazing cd, and I don't leave a lot of reviews for groups, but I am for this one.

  • Excellent!

Not sure what genre to put this cd in; doesn't matter though, it is great. Excellent music that I can not get out of my head (not that I really want it out.

Awsome cd, not one boring song and I love the lyrics, looking for more music from them in the future.

  • The cd is cool, lots of cybertechno seems interesting, and yeah.

Being a musician id have to say phonix has a good cd on their hands, perhaps good enough to get some good lable records to notice them. I would have to say this for deadstar assembly too. But overall they did a good job and if I could id give them a pat on the back and let them know that they should deffidenlty look forward into the music industry. -Inzi (Moi~Dir~I~Mois)

Phoenix Nebulin sends radio sellouts (along with their weak rapping and self-pity) running to hide under the bed. Linda's voice is so strong and the music is great! Package & production also stand out as professional. Hyper-industrial "Electric Halo" and anthemic "Chameleon" are candidates for favorite song. Over an hour of electrodominance - now that's an album! Can't wait for more!

I've been waiting a very LONG time to see a decent dark/industrial/eclectic band come out of florida again. This band is amazing!

I liked the audio samples so much that I bought "Distanza" from CD Baby and was not disappointed. The production is excellent, which is atypical of "self-produced" projects. It lends it that "listenable" quality where you don't mind letting whole the CD play. This is in stark contrast to major label productions with one good song that has had anything remotely resembling dynamic range beaten out of it in the studio, the only track you can stand listening to, followed by 35 minutes of filler. You can tell about 7-10 minutes into "Distanza" that a lot of time and attention went into this record. If hard, driving, industrial with intelligible lyrics and well-crafted songs is your thing, this CD is for you.

  • Melodic and intoxicating

Each song has its own deep melodic synth sound, complemented by a soulful female voice. The lyrics are somewhat dark and even sinister in parts and the overall effect is very moving. A stellar work.

Phoenix/Nebulin - Distanza Distributed by CD Baby Darkwave / Neo-Industrial This is the debut full-length album from Phoenix/Nebulin a Florida based band. Linda Doval(vocals, guitars, manipulations) Armando Doval(guitars, keyboards, programming) Joe Cozzi*(guitars), Tony Gines*(Keyboards). Distanza contains 12 original tracks and a bonus untitled track. This album is a bottled-up ball of energy and passion that bursts to life with the opening track "Chameleon". With its powerful female vocals and riveting guitar work, it sets the stage for this album. Towards the middle if the album, Linda and Armando bring the fiery emotion to a simmer as heard in "Nebulin", only to bring it back to a boil with "Torn Inside", a hard-hitting emotion-driven neo-industrial track. Distanza is well crafted album that contains fantastic raw power and emotion that is seldom seen in many new acts, which once were found more in the early 90s. Recommended for those who enjoy guitar-driven sound of Kovenant, as well as fans of oldtime Switchblade Symphony, and those who are into strong female vocals as heard in Sunshine Blind. 4 or possible 5 DJ Kreepy Krawly Club Illuminati
