notes
The unusual group Primero Mi Tia achieves to articulate in a solid sound the folkloric music from the coasts of Colombia and the frenzy of free improvised music. As a quintet (Jorge Sepúlveda, drums, Juan David Castaño, percussion, Juan Manuel Toro, double bass, Alejandro Forero, guitar and Liliana Serrano, saxophone), the group recorded this debut album in 2005. This album was ranked among the first 10 best albums of that year according to the prestigious Colombian magazine Semana. Without fear to take the traditional music to its furthest possibilities, the intention of this group is to experiment with the fusion of instruments and sonorities from diverse origins. Among the most important performances of the group are: Jazz al Parque 2005 and 2006 (Bogotá Colombia), CD Release at Teatro Jorge Eliéser Gaitan, november 2005, X Festival Iberoamericano de Teatro de Bogotá, III Festival de Fusión de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia, VI Festival Internacional de Jazz de Naguanagua, Venezuela, as well as performances in Valencia and Caracas, Festival Internacional de Jazz de Manizales 2006.
