I’ve been following Pistol River’s distinctive music
since their fi rst CD release, Memory Like
Mine, in 2001 then their award winning three CD
project, The Western Ballad Opera, followed up
by the Western Album of the Year, Prairie Winds
in 2004. Their fresh approach to production and
musical styling catches the listener’s ear and
imagination from the fi rst note. These guys never
fail to seamlessly cross musical borders at
will.
Each of the Pistol River players is well known
throughout the Nashville music scene for their
individual musical talents and accomplishments.
When they come together and devote their collective
gifts to the originality of Bizzack’s and
Adcock’s unhurriedly crafted songwriting there’s
always plenty of panache, along with lots of toe
tapping, fun and emotion soaked music. Pistol
River always delivers a perfect span of country,
powerful ballads, blues and rock.
The strength and timbre of Ray Barnette’s
smooth vocals steadily crown the melodies
throughout their latest CD, A Lesser Heaven,
further cementing the tight Pistol River sound
which makes them instantly recognizable. Barnette
is indeed a master vocal stylist underscoring
each song with believability. Julie Burton,
with a voice like a soft rain, crams emotional
conviction on two featured tracks as she delivers
a sassy, high energy performance along with
one of the most compellingly sensual songs in
this project.
Lively and classically eloquent, Pistol River
again creates and delivers a range of unforgettable
melodies and deft lyrics. They’ve got a niche
alright: good solid music!
