notes
There's only one theremin lounge band, and that's Project: Pimento! San Francisco’s finest lounge-tenders mix up a passionate elixir of rhythmic suavity set to sound. Sultry female vocals are backed up by a tight jazz combo, including a smooth theremin that takes the mood from the early ‘60s to outer space. Fogged in velvet, hopped on hep, and buying this round.
Project: Pimento returns with their long-awaited follow-up to their debut CD “Magical Moods of the Theremin”. This new CD, “Space Age Love Songs”, contains 14 songs from the 40s, 50s, and 60s, reinterpreted for 21st century hipsters, hep-cats, and swingers everywhere.
Project: Pimento features the theremin playing of Dr. Robby Virus. As the only instrument that is played without actually touching the instrument, the theremin is notoriously difficult to play, but Dr. Virus tames this musical beast with a hand wave and a martini. Project: Pimento also features the sultry voice of Lola Bombay, alter-ego of noted jazz vocalist Lori Carsillo. The Project: Pimento sound is rounded out by the talent-laden and devastatingly handsome lineup of Gentleman Jack (guitar), Aaron Wallbanger (drums), and Baron Karl von Stoli (bass). Special guest organist Wil Blades also performs on “Space Age Love Songs”.

good-mood maker, retro and sexy
author: holland vJust the right blend of instruments backing up the silky, top-drawer vocals. Wisely, Project Pimento lets the therimin add to the sound, never allowing it to overpower.
Dreamy and compelling
author: L. RobinwoodI was excited to find out Project:Pimento was coming out with another CD and I was not disappointed. From the spot-on retro graphic design of the cover to the terrific music inside this is a CD I want to share with everyone I know. The music is ranges from sensual to whimsical while never losing it's dream-like smoothness. Lola Bombay's voice pairs exquisetly with the theremin's sound making for ethereal duets. And the rest of the band ain't bad, either.
As good as the first, and that's really good
author: John O'ConnorAnother sweet cocktail jazz CD from this group. The female singer is still lovely, and she still sings and swings. The instruments are tight and clean, and the theremin is again the featured instrumental soloist. A great group: fun to listen to and extremely competent.
Awesome, Fever is worth the price of the CD, listen!
author: Bruce and BethMove over Peggy Lee! When a song like "Fever" has been defined for over 50 years by one singer, it's news when a novel interpretation makes it fresh. Lola makes "Fever" hers...with no disrespect to Peggy. Wow. I'm impressed. What a fun CD this is. Buy one for all your friends. They'll love you for it.

The perfect lounge CD would first, sport silky and coy female vocals, with a touch of mischief, include cheeky backup vocals supported by a chic jazz band of bubbling guitar lines, retro organ and a snappy rhythm section; but to have a theremin in the mix, sliding and singing along in its playful, delightfully-dippy way creates a 1960s space age atmosphere which is beyond the wildest dreams any velvet-loving, Star Trek-watching hipster. Enter Project: Pimento, a dream come true for any fan of Pink Martini and Combustible Edison. Oh yes, this is the kind of music that brings a little curl of a smile to the edge of your lips and then before long, has you craving a Manhattan or some other martini-bound beverage while you dig through your closet for that old pair of beat-up, hot pink pumps, calling out for one last night out on the town. What’s even more fun is that Project: Pimento’s appropriately-titled, “Space Age Love Songs,” covers some of the most memorable and classic popular songs like “Fever,” “Moon River,” and, for a dose of goofy, prankster buffoonery, the theme song from The Pink Panther’s “Shot in the Dark.” Of course, that means that this eccentric escapade manages to tie in threads of spy music along with an occasional nod to surf as well. This is going to be one of those CDs to treasure, one you can always count on when you find yourself taking life too seriously.
