notes

Light years before the formation of Alpha Centauri, four explorers joined forces to form a masterpiece capable of doing battle against the accepted genre of modern sound. Their weapon, an aphotic and elusive perfection of music formed from the depths of the subconscious. Years pass, following its birth, as many predictions are told, many attempts are made to harness the instability of this weapon’s combined power. A single word is uttered from the mouths of our four heros resulting in a perfect balance of elements. They agree to name the weapon PHILO.

Self destructive in Dark is an emotional A-bomb with enough latent energy to split an atom and etch your shadow into the sidewalk. The albums overall sound is heavy, theatrical and melodic in the vein of 30 Seconds To Mars, with atmospheric synthesizers breaking up the hard rock sound. At times, tracks like "Aqua Morning" and "Apathy's Broken Record" reach a level of chilling, melancholy that will have fans of Tool turning an open ear to singer Corbin's hauntingly sincere disclosures, while tracks like "Chagrin" possess a sense of urgency similar to that of Thursday, The Deftones and Glassjaw. Philo's Self Destructive In Dark (Part 1) is a worth while listen with little to no downtime. Add it to your CD baby cart now! - Tyler Starkey

"Wow" is all I can say about Philo's album Self-Destructive in the Dark. Every song is a masterpiece with haunting melodies and beautiful lyrics. I have to give "Lipgloss With Strangers" a perfect score as my favorite song on the CD, with "Apathys Broken Record" in a close second. All the songs though will stay with you long after you've stopped playing the CD. Philo rocks and I can't wait to hear more from them!
