notes

Tentatively titled Rust Dust and Horse Manure (the Anatomy of a Break Up), Peter Lavender’s follow up CD Never Now is a nod to the pop/rock sounds of the 1970’s. In each of the ten new songs there is a search for truth and understanding, each analyzing the struggle between heart and mind to accept the hand that’s been dealt.

"The arrangements and progressions on many of the tracks may sound upbeat but it’s the passionate blue eyed soul of Lavender's vocals and beautiful truth of the lyrics that hold our attention as we listen just a little bit closer the next time."

JoeG Host of Droppin' Knowledge WMBR Boston

Setting aside the country/folk rock of his debut CD Back to Normal, Lavender instead prefers the pop rock stylings of Todd Rundgren, Joe Jackson and Badfinger.

Like Back to Normal, Lavender once again plays all the instruments with Sir Bob Nash (Melvern Taylor and his Fabulous Meltones) helping out on drums.

  • Yes to Never Now

Peter Lavender’s latest CD, Never Now, is an intriguing mix of incredible songs, all wrapped up with unbelievable vocals, unforgettable lyrics, and lots and lots of emotions. From the heavy, primal beat of “More Than You’ll Ever Know” to the soft, mournfully- expressive resignation of “Out of Our Hands,” this album is pure enchantment. The title song, “Never Now”, encompasses an incredible feeling of loss within its up-beat strains. The stylistic sound of “Just Once” is reminiscent of the great Beatles, while retaining its Lavender trademark sounds. The classic old-time, music hall sound of “Seems a Little Silly Now” is nothing less than amazing. “Mushroom Hill”, the artist’s tribute to his young, deceased student, expresses the lilting, carefree energy of a child while expressing the regret of losing someone so young and so special. Lavender’s CD Back to Normal was a great first effort, but this is truly a unique and inspiring musical experience. These passionate songs are sure to haunt your days and nights, filling your head with the strong rhythms and catchy melodies. Highly recommended!
