notes

Peter Dorian is a Tampa Bay based singer, songwriter, and guitar player. Well crafted songs about love, hope, resignation and social commentary. Tight arrangements, great steady rockin grooves with a tip of the hat to the blues and old school R&B. There has got to be a song on this record you can relate to.

  • Remarkably Enjoyable

Peter Dorian has recorded a remarkably enjoyable CD. His guitar playing is tasteful, with tone and feel complementing each song. His vocals have raw character as he expertly sings his way through a very cool collection of well written originals. His style is a mix of R&B, contemporary blues and roots rock ala Delbert McClinton, Keb Mo, Bonnie Raitt, Greg Allman and Steve Miller. The title track “Back To Zero” is rockin’ blues with great vocals, social commentary and lots of guitar. Next, “Ask Your Doctor”, a song about prescription drugs, features soaring slide guitar and a vocal bridge sounds like Steve Miller reincarnated. “Love Is A Verb” is a soft funk number with decidedly male viewpoint on the subject of love. “Justify My Emotions” is medium tempo “Memphis style” soul ballad with heartfelt lyrics and Clapton-esque guitar. “You & Me The Hard Way” feels like jazzy “Steely Dan” kind of groove with a killer bass line and interesting changes. “Building Up Love” is rocker with a Robert Palmer thing going on. “Midnight Shuffle” is a steady drivin blues number with Lenny Austin on slide again. “Deep Indigo Voodoo” is a “New Orleans” number with a second line feel and lots of percussion. “Take My Name” is a beautiful wedding song with a rich “Americana” treatment; you can almost hear “Little Feat” or “The Band”. Wendy Rich’s emotive backing vocals along with Lenny Austin’s Dobro work really deliver this tune. “Brand New Old Love” is an “old school R&B number that leaves you groovin’ and totally impressed with Peter Dorian’s new CD “Back To Zero”.

Ask your Doctor is not only good advice, but a very cool song on several levels. I had to go get bar-b-que after the first listen.
